A student portfolio is a collection of academic work and other forms of educational evidence assembled for the purpose of (1) evaluating course quality, learning progress, and academic achievement; (2) determine whether students have. One of the greatest strengths of portfolio assessment in program evaluation may be its power as a tool to communicate program impact to those outside the program.
By looking at the overall pattern of the group or of individual participants, one can identify strengths, weaknesses and barriers to success. After a student completes the course's final project, the student will be required to insert that project into that portfolio that same semester. Students must build this portfolio based on the projects they work on in nine specific courses.
Journalism Portfolio: Students majoring in business journalism should create this portfolio.
Alternate Portfolio
Students should start thinking about their portfolio in their first semester with the help of their advisor. For example, if a student were to be assessed on portfolio work, their final version of their best work would likely be included in the portfolio. There should be an overall goal for the portfolio and for each project in the portfolio.
Students make an inventory of the objectives for the portfolio and assess whether the objectives have been achieved based on their portfolio. There are several factors students can consider before deciding what to include in their portfolio. Students may want to spend some time regularly discussing the purpose of the portfolio with their advisors to ensure that the selected pieces meet the purpose and objectives.
At set times, students, with the help of their advisors, will review their submissions to choose what should remain in the portfolio and what can be replaced by another piece of work that may be more illustrative of the purpose(s). Other materials that are no longer current and/or not useful in documenting student progress toward achieving the objectives should be discarded. The students' level of participation in the portfolio will be largely responsible for the success of the portfolio.
For this reason, students must be actively involved in the selection of entries and in the justification for the selection of those entries. The first role of the students is to select some elements that will be part of the portfolio. Students will be required to select the best projects from their courses and include them in a portfolio.
An essential component of self-assessment involves the students reflecting on their own work. At the beginning, students may not know what to say, so teachers will need to model the kind of reflection expected of students.
Registering for the portfolio
Submission of Portfolio
Each student is assigned an advisor who will guide the student through the entire process. This means that a student is allowed to change the project after he or she has submitted it to the lecturer each semester. For projects that involve writing, students should write the document and print it in the report.
If the assignment was not typed, the student must type it and submit it in the report. For 3D projects such as creating posters or masks and projects with video outputs, students are required to write a one-page essay. In the case of 3D projects, they must then submit a photo of the project they have created.
In the case of videos, they must upload the video and then provide the link. In the case of projects dealing with photography, students must again write a one-page essay and submit it together with a printed copy of the photograph. In the case of an audio-based project, students are required to write an essay explaining the project, upload the audio, and provide the link.
In addition to submitting a brief, students are also required to create their own website and upload all their documents to that website and submit the link as well. Close report will not be accepted unless and until a student creates his or her own website to go with it.
