I hereby declare that this work is solely written by me and that this internship project has been carried out under the supervision of Al Mahmud Rumman, an Associate Professor in the Department of English, Daffodil International University. First of all I would like to thank Al Mahmud Rumman, Lecturer, Department of English, who has helped me in this subject with proper guidance and under whom I have completed this thesis. I am grateful and fortunate enough to get constant encouragement, support and guidance from all faculty members of English Department, Daffodil International University.

This report was an attempt to know about "Present Scenario of English Language Teaching in a School of Bangladesh". More specifically, the researcher's goal was to visit a school and observe the language teachers' teaching methods and techniques. In conclusion, the study has provided some recommendations based on the findings and checklist from the observation that highlights the observed teacher's strengths and weaknesses that may be useful for aspiring teachers.

It also enables learners to become familiar with the culture, tradition, history and country in general of the target language and also to pursue knowledge and enjoyment in the world. The traditional teaching methodology, known as the teacher-centered grammar translation method, is not suitable for teaching communicative English, but only for meeting the requirements of the current examination system. There is a need for a change in methodology in the teaching of 'foreign' language and literature to bring it more in line with the collaborative approach of the learner-centred communicative method.

Therefore, the history and disadvantages of ELT in Bangladesh have made it clear that there is scope for improving the conditions of teaching and learning English language.

CHAPTER: III

After receiving advice and necessary instructions from my supervisor, Al Mahmud Rumman, I started searching for an English medium or version school for my internship. I followed their class schedule and I observed English 1st paper class where Tanha Islam taught them unit three events and festivals from their English for Today book. Two of them were in English 1st paper and one class was in English 2nd paper.

The teachers tried to do group activities and my job was to observe how the teacher managed the 45-minute lesson and organized the students' activities during the lesson. Tanha Islam has 10 minutes and asked her - "How do you keep students active during class?" She replied that she tried to maintain good relations with everyone and to be a kind facilitator, so that they always followed her instructions in the class so that the students were engaged in learning. He spoke about his expectations for his child and his satisfaction with the quality and standard of the school.

Basically, it was my first experience teaching in an English medium school on this scale. I wanted to interview both teachers but madam was interested but Tanha Islam mam was busy and did not sit for the interview.

Overall findings

The teacher used the mother tongue in the class because it was a Bangla high school and the target language was not clearly understandable to the students. The classrooms were sufficient and equipped with the necessary equipment such as a multimedia projector, sound box, generator and electricity, light and fans. Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is delivered in the classroom, where the teacher-student is both active in the learning process.

The teacher controls the students and prevents them from doing anything that is detrimental to their understanding of the lesson. It has been noticed that the teacher has practiced a number of pair and group activities by the students in each class, which is a good sign of a suitable learning environment. The materials were appropriate for the age level and relevant to the content of the lesson.
