Introduction of Brac-Aarong

  • History of the Company
  • Vision and Mission

The ethical brand you are referring to is Aarong, which started in 1978 as a humble means of helping rural artisans overcome poverty. BRAC started its sericulture project in 1978 under the leadership of the late Ayesha Abed, who had been the executive assistant to the director of BRAC. The goal was to give these women another way to earn money and help build a skilled workforce.

The sericulture project supported ladies in the rural areas of Manikganj to create top silk, and ladies in rustic networks of Jamalpur in the rendering of conventional hand nakshikantha. Consequently, Aarong was launched in 1978 to establish a connection between poor rural residents and urban retailers. There are several steps in the retail process: initially, a planning group conceptualizes the season's intentions, which are then sent down from the provincial craftsmen for creation.

Aarong has realized this vision and continues to challenge the retail industry with its sustainable fashion revolution, as evidenced by the new demand for handmade Bangladeshi goods. Mission: Our purpose is to give people and communities affected by poverty, illiteracy, disease and social injustice the tools they need to succeed.

Introduction

There were a few challenges I had to face during my internship and that is;. First, I had to be more disciplined than I have ever been because I had to reach the office on time and plan my day in advance. I had to finish my work within the given deadline, so I had to learn how to work under pressure and manage time for each work assigned to me.

The reason why I am saying this is because these times are the peak sales period for the company and because of this there has been a lot of extra work and campaigns that have only been done at this time and I have been lucky enough to be able to work on the campaigns for the store largest of reserves in Bangladesh. I had a strict time to reach the office and meet 8 hours and 45 minutes, so for that I had to make a schedule and divide my work accordingly. I had to get everything done on time and plan my schedule ahead so that I would be able to complete all my work of 3 supervisors including my main supervisor.

During my BBA life I have learned my theoretical aspects which I have been able to learn practically during my internship and also I have been able to use my theoretical knowledge in some of my jobs especially the things I have learned in my courses of marketing and supply chain, my practice. it has helped me understand those things in a more practical way. I was a super introverted person when I started my practice and my ability to communicate with strangers was very bad, but my practice has helped me overcome my fear. This happened mostly when I was working for Aarong Earth, when I had to distribute the samples and go to other points and talk to them.

During my internship I learned to work with people, even if I personally don't feel comfortable with them and don't like them personally. The corporate culture is very different, so I was able to blend in with that culture and prepare myself for more corporate adventures. I was only able to attend two training sessions and it was very useful and the visit to the foundation was life changing.

During my internship in the sales and marketing department for Aarong E-commerce, I was able to interact with the warehouse management team, packaging team and account team. I had the opportunity to work on Aarong's ERP system and their product management software. The second job I was assigned was that I had to clear the entire international order status from pending to delivered.

Challenge during internship

Because I was treated as an employee and not an intern, there was a sudden pressure to work perfectly and error-free and to submit work on time.

Outcome of the internship

This internship forced me to talk and communicate with people and start conversations with people I just met and that's why I'm not afraid to talk to anyone now. This workplace taught me to work with everyone with a smile and cooperate perfectly with everyone. It taught me that personal and professional life should never be mixed together and none of the employees there do.

I was lucky enough to be treated by them as an employee and not an intern. So, that's why I was part of many important tasks of the department and they shared many things with me and I feel that it informed me a lot about how things are done in a corporation. It taught me how to act immediately on problems and how to handle things smartly.

There was a time when my supervisor trusted me with the whole process and let me make decisions for a job and it taught me a lot. We also had the privilege of getting 3 trainings and a trip to Ayesha Abed Foundation Manikganj which was special for the interns. The visit to the foundation changed our perspective for Aarong, as every process was done by people and not machines to make their products, which increases the job opportunity for people.

The training was also wonderful as our trainer was really helpful and shared many real life problems that we can face in the job market and in companies and gave a brief overview of how we can deal with them.

Bonus Work

Within the company no one is bothered by anyone, everyone is busy with their own work, which makes it pleasant to work. There are no restrictions to do their own personal work in the office, they only care about meeting the deadlines, but do not worry about how the employees meet them. The Aarong brand is already a popular brand among people all over the world. By using that brand equity, they can do even more great things.
