In this chapter, the researcher presents about background of the study, the
problem of the study, purpose of the study, significance of the study, scope and
limitation of the study and definition of key term.
1.1Background of the Study
Language is an important instrument for human being. Actually, language
can not be separated from human being life. Additionally, language also has
several functions such as Lingua Franca, business of communication tool and
many more. For instance, people can share their ideas, feelings and interests by
using language to communicate with each other in social life. In fact, it is usually
called as communication. Communication is included two parties; speaker and
receiver. Speaker means that a person who shares any messages such as sharing
ideas, feelings and interests by using language for a communication. On the other
hand, receiver is a person who receives those messages or listens everything that
speaker said. As the result, language is used as a tool for communication between
speaker and the receiver.
Since language is used over generations in a society, it is not deniable that

According to Wardhaugh (2015: 53), register is one of the objects of the
study in sociolinguistics that refers to a set of language items which are associated
with discrete occupational or social groups. It means that registers used by the
community members who have the same particular occupation or social
communities such as in doctors, teachers, basketball players, football players and

In society, there are many communities that used register in their daily

For instance, it will be easier for someone who wants to buy a jacket in an online
shop by saying, “WTB this jacket.” rather than “I want to buy this jacket, and please do not sell it to anyone else”. The first term or utterance is the sample
expression of register that is used in order to book a certain product. Based on the
explanation before, it indicates that register has the strong relationship with
certain community.
Nowadays, since the progress of technology is increasing significantly;
everything of human being life can be facilitated by the internet connection.
Mostly, people use the internet connection everyday to find what they want, what
they need and even to have communication. Because of that, the entrepreneur can
be optimized online communication to promote the product which demanded by

imagine because the virtual partners he or she has is various, whether they are
businessmen or not. The social media also has the advantage side that is a new
innovation for entrepreneur which gets an opportunity to solve problems, bring
new products and service to market.
People create an account in social media such as in Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram, and so on for communication with their partner via online. the social
medias have group and fans page tool. It means that they can create community in
social media. It looks like a community of entrepreneur of clothes in social media.
They use specialized communication to discuss about business, product
promotion, trading, bargaining, capital transactions activities, and so on in media
social.
The community of entrepreneur clothes in social media means that the

businesses. In order to communicate among their groups easier, simpler, more
interesting, and unique, they have particular words which have special meanings
and functions. Unfortunately, only the members of the group are able to
comprehend its meanings.
