EMPLOYMENT

2010 (contracts)

Base Mapping, Integrated Resource Consultants Inc., Gibsons, B.C.

Captured GPS data in the field and created digital base maps using highresolution colour orthophotos and municipal shapefiles, for a large waterfront

redevelopment project on Squamish First Nations Band lands.

Digital Image Processing, U.B.C. Math Department, Vancouver, B.C.

Created false colour composites and mosaics using Landsat 7 etm and MODIS multispectral satellite imagery of arctic sea ice.

Roadside Interviewing, Canadian Centre for Substance Abuse, Ottawa, O.N. Captured primary research data via roadside interviews, administered BAC breathalyzer and sampled saliva.

Mineral and Fossil Identification, Elphinstone’s Rock and Gem Shop, Gibsons, B.C. Identified extensive quantities of minerals and fossils, designed a database, and input data.

2009

Spatial Database Creation, Ecological Restoration Associates, North Vancouver, B.C.

Created spatial relational database, conducted file cleaning, migrated data for cross-platform compatibility between MS Access and ArcGIS.

Wildfire Hazard Map Creation, Improvement District of North Cedar, B.C., Nanaimo, B.C.

Captured GPS data and generated wildland interface fire hazard zone maps using ArcGIS software. Also conducted ecological fire hazard field assessments.

2007

Geo-Spatial Scientist and Field Ecologist, Wildfire Interface Hazard Assessments, Mayne Island Fire Department, Victoria, B.C.

Captured GPS, GIS, and remotely sensed data and generated wildland interface fire hazard zone maps using ArcGIS software. Also conducted ecological fire hazard field assessments.

2006-2007

(2)

Provided a stimulating learning environment for adults and children with a wide variety of multicultural classroom teaching strategies. Employed a broad range of instructional techniques to maximize individual learning within a group

environment. Evaluated student progress.

2006

Summer Field Researcher, Wildfire Interface Hazard Assessments, Mayne Island, B.C. Created representative plots to delineate the boundaries of wildfire hazard zones. Consulted multi-party stakeholders including local First Nations. Classified forest communities and acquired GIS data.

2005

Directed Study: Urban Salt Marsh Restoration (Geography 490), University of Victoria with the Capitol Regional District, Victoria, B.C.

Designed sampling scheme, collected and processed soil samples, analyzed statistical data. Captured GIS data using a Trimble GPS and performed geospatial analysis. Used remote sensing to conduct a change detection analysis by digitizing historic hard copy orthophotos and comparing them with high resolution 2005 colour orthophotos. Produced two digital map layers (shapefiles) for an online arcIMF atlas.

2001-2002

Junior Project Scientist, Microbial Technologies, Roberts Creek, B.C. Conducted fieldwork and laboratory research for environmental consulting projects. Liaised with government, industry and public clients during the tenure of their contracts. Performed water chemistry analysis and toxicity testing. Established toxicity testing capabilities for the laboratory.
