The Commencement of ESP Courses Tanggal: 2011-02-28
The second semester of ESP Program Academic year 2010/2011 has been commenced this week (February 28, 2011). Language Center (LC) of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) offered three compulsory courses, namely Reading 2, Speaking 2 and Writing. In addition to those courses, remedial classes are also offered and have been started at the same commencing date to accommodate students recourse any classes they failed in.
Earlier this semester, LC conducted a regular academic meeting to discuss necessary preparations for the coming semester. The meeting was held on Friday 25, 2011 and attended by Vice Rector of Student Affairs, Drs. Joko Widodo, M.Si. and Director of LC, Dra. Dwi Poedjiastutie, M.A. Mr. Widodo, in his opening remark, gave the LC staff some tips to tackle specific students in class. Some issues about problems faced by students were also aspects to consider. Mr. Widodo highlighted that teaching was not only involving academic competences but also the teachers’ ability to communicate with students in a warm relationship/merit consideration. It was expected that teaching staff takes into account students’ problems and corporate the students’ problems when treating them. In addition to those informative points, Ms. Poedjiastutie emphasized the importance of continuous professional development to enhance professionalism. Ms. Poedjiastutie stated that LC will continuously improve its services to facilitate students better.
It is expected that every year there will be an increasing number of ESP graduates due to more systematic way of the course planning and better services to all students.
