Sastra from English Department at Faculty of Culture Studies, University of Sumatera Utara.

ABSTRACT

This Thesis entitled An Analysis of Illocutionary Acts on Joko Widodo’s Speeches. The aim of this study is to found the illocutionary acts in campaign and victory speech of Joko Widodo in Indonesia Presidential Election 2014. This study is descriptive qualitative research. The writer had chosen both of those speeches because each speech has many intentions of illocutionary acts by the theory of Alan Cruse. Illocutionary act is part of speech act which is subdivision of pragmatics. There are 5 categorizes of illocutionary acts found in this thesis, they are : assertives, directives, expressives, commissives, and declaratives. The data that found by the writer are 44. The most dominant category found in both speeches is assertives. It indicates that Joko Widodo speeches filled with statements and advices.
