Writing is one of the difficult skills. However, many students have difficulties in writing process. The writer found the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 still have less understanding and capability in writing. It is because their teacher did not use an interesting media in the teaching learning process. Therefore, the writer uses wordless picture books as a media can help the students’ to have more creative comprehend stories by using pictures, and also to be inspired to create their idea using the pictures in writing.

The objective of the research is to find out whether or not there is a significance difference between the English writing ability of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 before and after being taught by using Wordless Picture Books.

The design of this research is an experimental research. The subject of the research was tenth grade students in SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2013/2014. The writer takes one class as the sample by using cluster random sampling. The writer got X software engineering, which consists of 33 students. The writer got written test by giving pretest and posttest.

The result of the writing ability of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in the academic year 2013/2014, the mean of pre test is 51.44 and the mean of post test is 81.23, the t-test is 16.26 in the level significance (α) = 0.05 and the degree comparison (df) 32, the t-table is 2.04. So the conclusion is there is a significant difference between the English writing ability of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 before and after being taught by using wordless picture books. So, the use of wordless picture books is effective.

Menulis adalah salah satu ketrampilan yang sulit. Banyak siswa yang merasa kesulitan dalam proses menulis. Penulis menemukan kelas sepuluh SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus tahun ajaran 2013/2014 masih kurang pemahaman dan kemampuan dalam menulis. Ini karena guru mereka tidak menggunakan media yang menarik dalam proses belajar mengajar. Penulis menggunakan buku bergambar tanpa kata sebagai media, supaya dapat membantu siswa untuk lebih kreatif dalam memahami cerita menggunakan gambar, dan juga menjadikan inspirasi untuk membuat ide mereka menggunakan gambar dalam menulis.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui adakah perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan dalam menulis bahasa inggris siswa kelas X SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus tahun ajaran 2013/2014 sebelum dan sesudah diajarkan menggunakan buku bergambar tanpa kata.

Model dari penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen. Pokok dari penelitian ini adalah kelas X di SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Penulis menggunakan satu kelas sebagai contoh dengan menggunakan tehnik sampling acak. Penulis mendapatkan kelas X rangkaian perangkat lunak, yang terdiri dari 33 siswa. Penulis mendapatkan tes tertulis dengan memberikan pre test dan post test.

Hasil penelitian dari kemampuan menulis pada siswa kelas X SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus tahun ajaran 2013/2014, nilai rata-rata dari pre test 51,44 dan nilai rata-rata dari post test 81,23, nilai t-test 16,26 pada level signifikan (α) = 0.05 dan tinkat perbandingan 32, t-tabel 2,04. Jadi kesimpulannya adalah ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan menulis bahasa inggris siswa kelas X SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus tahun ajaran 2013/2014 sebelum dan sesudah diajarkan menggunakan buku bergambar tanpa kata. Jadi penggunaan buku bergambar tanpa kata efektif untuk proses belajar mengajar.
