ON THE JOB TRAINING IN JAPAN

PREFACE

All of praise and thanks to God, because by His mercy writer can finish the report. The report is made on year 2016.

And the writer also say thank you all sides who support and help the writer to finish the report, they are who honorable:

1. All arrangement that has given us the opportunity to be able to follow the On the Job Training at JRC factory in Japan

2. All trainers who whose taught us so much about the JRC new technology and

JRC products.

3. Mr. Ishihara as Chief of JRC Jakarta Representative Office who gives

opportunity to do on the job training at JRC factory in Japan

4. Mr. Takagawa as of JRC Jakarta Bosai Team Leader who guides us on the job

training at JRC factory in Japan

5. All JRC Japan staff whose taught us so much about the JRC in Japan.

In writer this report, writer is conscious that there are still many mistakes. So I accept suggestion and constructive eroticism from all readers. Finally, I hope that this report can be useful for all.

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

A. BACKGROUND

On the Job Training is one of the ways to get some experience, skill, and to introduce the products of the factory and will know about how to make these products step by step until finish. For further the sentence of "On the Job Training" is referred to as OJT. Usually, OJT does at factory or during installation on project.

Now JRC Jakarta Office has 2 teams, first Bosai Team (Disaster), second VTS Team (Marine). Bosai Team has 2 new engineer, they are need to learn about

JRC’s produ ts and te hnolog in parti ular to the needs of disaster in Indonesia. The new engineer had to work harder on this matter so that later can promote JRC's products to the Indonesian market for disaster needs and other (weather forecast, etc.)

B. OBJECTIVES

The objectives of OJT at JRC's Factory in Japan are:

1. To introduce JRC’s Company in Japan

2. To introduce the trainee to JRC' product and technology

3. To increase the knowledge of the trainees about JRC Products and Systems,

such as DAM Control System, Weather Radar Operation & Maintenance, Telemetry System Operation, Discharge Warning System Operation

4. To increase the trainee capability in system engineering and technical.

5. To train the trainee about mentally, discipline and responsibility of an

engineer

CHAPTER II equipment, radars, data transmission equipment, controllers, public address sets, power supply equipment, capacitors, etc.

B. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENTS

The materials and equipments to OJT in JRC’s factory are:

1. Training Module for each section of training

2. Note book antenna, radar processing unit, Inmarsat satellite system, and operation console also produced in Ueda factory. After factory visit and tour at Ueda factory, directly go to Nagano factory for introduced factory by Mr. Takagawa.

Nagano factory activity first is training about Weather Radar Operation and Maintenance on October, 25th-27th 2016. First day of training Weather

Radar Operation and Maintenance is introduced about the weather radar system, configuration and pilot project in Philippine.

Weather radar JRC have 3 type of band, there is:

a. S-Band Radar

b. C-Band Radar

c. X-Band Radar

The basic different of this 3 type weather radar is observation radius, S-Band radar have observation radius 400km, C-S-Band radar 300km, and for X-Band radar 80km. But, for X-X-Band radar have high accuracy rainfall sensor.

Second day activity is how to operate the weather radar, in this case operated Rainwatcher X-Band Radar because this training also for Brazil project. Radar Workstation PC used for control this weather radar like control azimuth and elevation. Radar Workstation can make task for the radar, usually task used for scanning schedule.

Third day activity is how to take out the one of unit from radar like TRX unit. Purpose of this activity is for how to replacing the unit if the unit broken and other purpose is for maintenance work. The last training was explained about J-BIRDS software. This software usually install at Master Station, for communication to Radar Station using broadband network.

Next training is lecture about New RTU on October 28th 2016 at Nagano factory. RTU is equipment for interface sensor like rainfall sensor, water

It used for data collection like rainfall data and water level data.

b. Dam Data Processing Subsystem

c. Gate Control Subsystem

For control the gate to open or not based on information from Dam data processing subsystem

d. Dam Discharge Warning Subsystem

The function is for inform to people surrounding Dam and also warning if dangerous condition.

2. Second Week

Next training is sensornet communication on October 31 2016 at Kawagoe office, this training actually for Agam Project. The activity is how to change sensornet topology, for example: from 6-6 (6 layers and 6 child) to 9-3 (9 layers and 3 child).

Next activity is sharing session about how to use Pathloss 5.0C, this activity held by JRC Jakarta staff. After finished, directly go to Nagano for next training.

On November 1 is training about telemetry system operation. At this time the training is about radio equipment and repeater equipment for telemetry system operation. Radio equipment consist of 3 units, there is:

a. Transmitter NSE-1560 (150MHz band) Next activity is training about repeater equipment, the outline is repeater have 3 types there is:

a. V-V repeater

This repeater mean is VHF to VHF communication. For this repeater used 2 frequencies (f1 and f2).

b. µ-V repeater

For this repeater mean is micro to VHF communication. Micro mean is another media communication like radio link, fiber optic, etc.

c. S/F repeater

Store and Forward repeater is different with 2 repeaters before. 2 repeaters before is real time repeater, but for this repeater is non-real time repeater because this repeater will store or save the data for few millisecond and forward to next node.

Next training is Discharge Warning System Operation, held on November 2 2016 at Nagano factory. Warning equipment has a same CPU and modem with telemetry equipment, but the software different. In this case, the warning equipment model is JYY-175. This warning equipment have amplifier 100W with model NVA-369. This amplifier NVA-369 can handle maximal 3 speakers which that are standard of JRC.

CHAPTER III

FINDING A. IMPLEMENTATION

The proponent factors of on OJT are:

1. Motivation and support from all JRC Japan staff

2. Good corporation between the JRC Tokyo staff and the trainee who

having the OJT

3. Good discipline, responses and good knowledge

4. There is no discrimination between trainee

5. The material and equipments are well available at JRC factory

B. BENEFITS

1. Benefit for JRC Jakarta Office:

Through OJT, JRC Jakarta have new engineer who they already learn about JRC products and technology direct to JRC factory in Japan.

2. Benefit for trainee:

a. The trainee can apply the theory in JRC’s Proje t in Indonesia.

b. The trainee can try to practice at real equipment (example:

RAINWATCHER, VTS Radar, etc.)

c. The trainee get experience and knowledge after finishing the OJT

d. It can train the trainees mentally , discipline and responsibilities

CHAPTER IV

CLOSING

A. CONCLUSION

The conclusion that the writer can take from this on the OJT are:

1. The trainees know about JRC’s company in Japan, manufacturing,

assembling, etc.

2. The trainees already learn about JRC's products and technology

3. Increase the knowledge about products and systems of JRC such as DAM

Control System, Weather Radar Operation & Maintenance, Telemetry System Operation, Discharge Warning System Operation

4. The trainee capability to increase in system engineering and technical.

5. The trainees understand what the responsibilities of an engineer.

6. This OJT provide some motivation for trainee to learn more about JRC products continuously and working harder, so that trainees can become a better engineer.

7. The trainees should be learn more about JRC products to have the ability

to be able to present JRC products to Indonesian market.

B. SUGGESTION

1. JRC factory in Japan very clean, orderly and tidy. Every room has high security system. So, the trainees should be keeping clean and tidy every time working at JRC factory. The trainees has a good habit during OJT in JRC Japan, and it must also be familiarized in the JRC Jakarta Office

2. The trainer for weather radar lecture has very good knowledge about this

3. Telemetry System and Dam Discharge Warning System lecture is very interesting which it explained by Mr. Takagawa. The trainees learn clearly and can try to operate the equipment at JRC factory directly.

1. The item of training is too much for 2 weeks duration. So, I am no understand some training because very short time. I think better only few item of training but we clearly understand than very much item of training but we no understand some training.

2. I think better we also visit Dam Management System in Japan not only

Warning System at Shinjuku.

3. For training Telemetry System and Dam Discharge Warning System not

so good training, e ause the trainer an’t e plain with English so Mr.

Takagawa needs to translate. This matter become take a time for explanation, but the trainer very good knowledge and know so well about the system because when we ask, trainer directly to answer.
