An Analysis of Teachers’ Written Feedback in Guided Writing Class

Abstract

This study investigates the teachers’ written feedback in students’ writings. The purpose of this

study was to analyze the types of written feedback in students’ writings. A descriptive method

was used to categorize feedback into direct and indirect feedback. The data were taken from

students’ writings from Guided Writing Course of English Department of Satya Wacana

Christian University. The findings show that there were many types of indirect feedback such as

underlining, spacing, and circling, and direct feedback such as cross with revision, direct

revision, appraisal and constructive criticism. The study also found that the use of direct revision

was used for both revising content as well as the form of writing.
