ABSTRACT

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF WORDLESS PICTURE BOOK TO DEVELOP STUDENTS’ NARRATIVE WRITTING

The purpose of this research was to prove that wordless picture book was

effective to develop students’ narrative writing. The teaching learning process was

conducted in June 16-20rd, 2014 at SMP N 1 Rawalo in academic year 2013/2014.

This research used quasi experimental research. The subject were 64 students which consist of two classes, namely control class and experimental class. The experimental class (VIII B) was treated by using wordless picture book and control class (VIII D) was not. The teaching material in this research was writing narrative text. In the instrument used test. There were two test, pre-test which conducted in the beginning of the research and post-test which conducted in the end of the research. Base on data analysis, the experimental class got higher improvement 13 from pre-test was 65.7 to post-test was 78.7. Then, the mean score in control class had improvement 6.62 from pre-test was 64.78 to post-test was 71.40. it means that experiment class got higher improvement than the control class (13>6.62). While the t-test result was 3.5749 also showed that it was higher than t-table value with degree of freedom (df) 62 at level significance 0,05 was 1.6698 (3.5749>1.6698). It can be conclude that wordless picture book was

effective to develop students’ narrative writing at 2nd grade students of SMP N 1 Rawalo.
