Respirasi meliputi semua proses kimia dan fisik
dimana organisme menukar udara/gas dengan
lingkungannya
Prinsip pertukaran udara tersebut meliputi
oksigen (O
2) dan karbondioksida (CO
2), dimana
O
2diambil dari atmosfir dan diperlukan oleh
jaringan tubuh untuk metabolisme oksidasi,
sedangkan CO
2merupakan produk akhir yang
penting dari metabolisme dan harus dibuang dari
tubuh
Kemampuan untuk bertahan hidup tergantung
pemeliharaan konsentrasi dan jumlah yang benar
dari O
2dan CO
2dalam jaringan. Istilah
pernafasan, yang lazim digunakan menyangkut
dua proses, yaitu: Internal respirasi dan eksternal
respirasi
1.
External respiration (pernafasan luar) yaitu
pertukaran udara yang terjadi di dalam
paru-paru, penyerapan O
2dan pengeluaran CO
2dari
tubuh secara keseluruhan
Proses ini berlangsung efisien:
because alveoli and
capillaries have very thin walls & are very
abundant (your lungs have about 300 million
alveoli with a total surface area of about 75
square meters)
2.
Internal respiration (pernafasan dalam) yaitu
pertukaran udara yang terjadi pada
jaringan-jaringan. Penggunaan O
2dan pembentukan CO
2oleh sel-sel tubuh
Sistem respirasi terdiri dari organ pertukaran gas
(paru) dan sebuah pompa ventilasi paru
Pompa ventilasi terdiri dari dinding dada; otot-otot
pernafasan, yang memperbesar dan memperkecil
ukuran rongga dada; pusat pernafasan di otak
yang mengendalikan otot pernafasan; serta syarat
yang menghubungkan pusat pernafasan dengan
otot pernafasan
Aliran O
2dan CO
2antara udara dan darah di dalam
paru-paru dan diantara kapiler darah dan sel-sel
jaringan terjadi secara difusi

alveoli (site of gas exchange)
widayati@ugm.ac.id 8
The Alveoli consist of thin, flexible membranes that contain an extensive network of Capillaries. The Membranes separate a gas from liquid. The gas is the air we take in through our Respiratory System, and the liquid is BLOOD
The Bronchioles continue to subdivide until they finally end in Clusters of Tiny Hallow AIR SACS called ALVEOLI. Groups of Alveoli look like bunches of grapes. ALL EXCHANGE OF GASES IN THE LUNGS OCCURS IN THE ALVEOLI
Mekanisme Respirasi
Fungsi utama sistim respirasi yaitu sebagai
pengambilan O
2dan pengeluaran CO
2, dan
sebagai fungsi tambahannya adalah membantu
pengaturan suhu tubuh, pH dan pembentukan
suara
Respirasi merupakan dua aktivitas, yaitu inspirasi
dan ekspirasi

pada

udara kering terdiri dari 20,89% O

Inspirasi
Inspirasi merupakan proses yang aktif. Kontraksi otot-otot
nilai normal sekitar
–2,5 mm Hg (relatif terhadap tekanan
atmosfer) pada awal inspirasi, menjadi
–6,0 mm Hg,
Jaringan paru semakin terenggang
Ekspirasi
Selama pernafasan tenang, ekspirasi merupakan
proses pasif yang tidak memerlukan konstraksi otot
untuk menurunkan volume intratorakal. Namun,
pada awal ekspirasi masih terdapat konstraksi
ringan otot inspirasi
Konstraksi ini berfungsi sebagai peredam daya

THE MECHANISM OF BREATHING
BREATHING IS THE ENTRANCE
AND EXIT OF AIR INTO AND FROM THE LUNGS.
VENTILATION is the term for
the movement of air to and from the Alveoli Every single time you take a breath, or move air in and out of your lungs, TWO major actions take place.
INHALATION - also called
INSPIRATION, air is pulled into the LUNGS
EXHALATION - also called
EXPIRATION, air is pushed out of the Lungs
•As the external intercostals &
diaphragm contract, the lungs expand •The expansion of the lungs causes the
pressure in the lungs (and alveoli) to become slightly negative relative to atmospheric pressure
•As a result, air moves from an area of higher pressure (the air) to an area of lower pressure (our lungs & alveoli) •During expiration, the respiration
muscles relax & lung volume decreases
•This causes pressure in the lungs (and alveoli) to become slight positive
relative to atmospheric pressure. As a result, air leaves the lungs

Volume Paru
maksimal, setelah inspirasi biasa disebut volume cadangan inspirasi (inspiratory reserve volume/IRV)
melalui konstraksi otot ekspirasi, setelah ekspirasi biasa disebut volume cadangan ekspirasi (expiratory reserve volume/ERV)
disebut volume residu (residual volume/RV)
Pengukuran kapasitas vital (vital capacity), yaitu jumlah udara terbesar

Hypoxia
Apabila tekanan parsial O
2dibawah normal, maka
hewan dalam keadaan hypoxia, sedangkan absennya
(tidak adanya)
O
2dalam jaringan disebut anoxia
Klasifikasi hypoxia dibagi menjadi 4, yaitu:
1.
Ambient hypoxia (hypoxia hypoxic). Disebabkan
rendahnya tekanan parsial O
2dalam udara sekitar
(lingkungan) yang akan mempengaruhi tubuh secara
keseluruhan, hal ini terlihat (terjadi) pada ketinggian
tempat, tempat (ruang) yang tertutup atau agen
anasthesi, sehingga menyebabkan defisiensi O
2widayati@ugm.ac.id 18
2.
Anemia hypoxia (hypoxia anemik). Dimana tekanan partial
O
2darah arteri normal tetapi jumlah Hb yang tersedia
untuk mengangkut O
2berkurang.
jaringan sangat lamban, akibatnya O
2yang cukup tidak
dikirim ke jaringan walaupun PO
2dan konsentrasi Hb
normal
4.
Histotoxic
hypoxia.

Respirasi Pada Unggas
The avian respiratory system delivers oxygen from the air to
the tissues and also removes carbon dioxide
In addition, the respiratory system plays an important role in
thermoregulation (maintaining normal body temperature)
The avian respiratory system is different from that of other
vertebrates, with birds having relatively small lungs plus
nine air sacs that play an important role in respiration (but
are not directly involved in the exchange of gases).
widayati@ugm.ac.id 20
Anatomi: paru-paru kecil dan menempel pada rusuk
sehingga secara relatif tidak mengembang. Terdapat
kantong udara yang besar, pembuluhnya kurang
berkembang. Kontraksi otot-otot pernafasan terjadi
selama inspirasi dan ekspirasi (keduanya aktif)
Most birds have 9 air sacs:
one interclavicular sac two cervical sacs
two anterior thoracic sacs two posterior thoracic sacs two abdominal sacs
Functionally, these 9 air sacs can be divided into anterior sacs (interclavicular, cervicals, & anterior thoracics) & posterior sacs (posterior thoracics & abdominals)
Air sacs have very thin walls with few blood vessels. So, they do not play a direct role in gas exchange. Rather, they act as a 'bellows' to ventilate the lungs
widayati@ugm.ac.id 22
The air sacs permit a unidirectional flow of air through the lungs.
Unidirectional flow means that air moving through bird lungs is
largely 'fresh' air & has a higher oxygen content. In contrast, air
flow is 'bidirectional' in mammals, moving back & forth into &
out of the lungs. As a result, air coming into a mammal's lungs
is mixed with 'old' air (air that has been in the lungs for a while)
& this 'mixed air' has less oxygen. So, in bird lungs, more
So, how does air flow through the avian lungs & air sacs during respiration?
1. On first inhalation, air flows through the trachea & bronchi & primarily
into the posterior (rear) air sacs
2. On exhalation, air moves from the posterior air sacs & into the lungs 3. With the second inhalation, air moves from the lungs & into the
anterior (front) air sacs
4. With the second exhalation, air moves from the anterior air sacs back
widayati@ugm.ac.id 24 During inspiration: the sternum moves forward & downward while the vertebral ribs move cranially to expand the sternal ribs & the thoracoabdominal cavity (see diagram below). This expands the posterior & anterior air sacs (see 1 above) & lowers the pressure, causing air to move into those air sacs. Air from the trachea & bronchi moves into the posterior air sacs &, simultaneously, air from the lungs moves into the anterior air sacs.
During Expiration: Schematic representation of the right paleopulmonic lung and air sacs of a bird and the pathway of gas flow through the pulmonary system during inspiration and expiration. For purposes of clarity, the neopulmonic lung is not shown. The intrapulmonary bronchus is also known as the mesobronchus
