to family
stress theory, stress can disruptramily functioning.
Somestudies t'evealed that higher
family
stress were associatedwith
the mother's perceptionsof
havinglorver levels
of
social
supporl.This
study
aimedto
determinethe
relationship between fami11support ancl
family
flnction
of mothers who have a childwitli
DS.Nlethod: This
study
usedcorelational
research design.The
respondentsof
this
studywere
32mothers
of a
child
with
DS
aged 1-18 years
in
DurnagueteCity-Philippines
obtained usingputposive
sampling andreferral
from
the
respondents.The study utilized
two
self-administeredquestionnaires
(Family
Support Scale andFamily Function
Scale)to
identify
thelevel
of
famil1support and the level
of family
function of the respondents.Results:
A
t-testfor
correlational study revealed that thereis
a significant relationship between tl.ielevel
of family
support and the levelof family
function(p:0.026).
Conclusion
andrecommendation:
Thefinding
implies that the stronger thefamily
supporl is, thehealthier
the
family
function
of
motherswho
have achild with
DS is.
Future research should beconducted
with
a larger number of respondents.Key Words: Down syndrome,
