Perry Perseveres
Perry the Penguin stared at the ice skates.
His flippers trembled.
He could do it.
This time, he would do it.
Maybe. He would put his
flippers out. That was a good
plan, and maybe this time he
wouldn’t
fall over. He hated being the only
penguin that couldn’t skate. It was so
embarrassing.
He took a deep breath and laced up the
skates.
“Are you ready, Perry? Let’s do this!” his
friend Percy said. Perry carefully held his small
flippers out beside him for balance and stepped
onto the icy pond. He stood still as a statue
before he pushed off with one skate. He
gracefully glided to one side of the pond. He
never slipped once!
He let out a cheer! He could skate!

Perry Perseveres
Perry the Penguin stared at the ice skates. His flippers trembled in his terror.
He shook his head and thought, “I can do this. I am brave and strong!”
This time, he would do it. Maybe. He would put his flippers out. He would use this for balance so maybe this time he wouldn’t fall
over. He hated being the only penguin that couldn’t skate. It was so embarrassing, but at least his
friends were still nice to him. If they made fun of him he would cry.
He took a deep breath and laced up the skates.
“Are you ready, Perry? Let’s do this!” his friend
Percy said. Percy was so proud that Perry kept trying to skate even though it was hard for him. Perry
persevered. Perry carefully held his small flippers out beside him for balance and stepped onto the icy pond. He stood still as a statue before he pushed off with one skate, and he gracefully glided to one side of the pond. He never slipped once!
He let out a cheer! He could skate!

Chinese New Year
When do you celebrate the New Year? Do you celebrate it on January first?
China is in the east. In China they celebrate the Chinese New Year. It is not in the beginning of the year like in the west. It celebrates the end of winter and the
beginning of spring. The day of the Chinese New Year changes each year. Most of the time it is sometime in January or February.
Each year is named after an animal. Some years are named after the horse, rat, or dog. Some people believe that people born in that year are like the animal the year is named after. They believe people born in the year of the dog are honest and helpful. People born in the year of the tiger are thought to be brave.
The Chinese New Year is celebrated for fifteen days. Children get to take a whole month off of school! There are dances and street fairs. At the very end of The Chinese New Year there is a festival.
Celebrates- to throw a party and have a good time
