PREFACE

First of all, I would like to say thanks to Allah S.W.T for his blessing and

mercy given me to finish writing this thesis. This thesis was written to fulfill one

of the requirements for S. Pd degree of English department of teacher training and

education faculty of Muhammadiyah university of Purwokerto.

At last I realize that this thesis is still far from being perfect. However, it is

expected to be useful either for reader or for me. Knowing this fact, I always hope

conjunctive criticism as well as. Advices from those who really want make this

thesis better and more complete.

The aim of the research was to find out the effectiveness of Jigsaw technique in teaching reading recount text. This research used quasi experimental. Two classes were chosen, VIII D as the experimental class and VIII E as the control class. Pre-test and post-Pre-test were used to find the data. The Pre-test was in multiple-choice forms consisting of 20 items for each test. T-test formula was used to analyze the data. It was also used questionnaire to strengthen the data. The result of the research

showed that there was a significant difference of the students‟ ability in mastering

Recount Text between the students who were taught using Jigsaw technique and those who were taught using group work. It could be seen on the result of computation of t-test, where t-result was 2.89 and t-table was 1.667 at the

significant level α=0.05 in df=68. So, the result of t-test result was higher than t-table. It meant that the hypothesis about the effectiveness of jigsaw technique in teaching reading recount text was accepted.
