This book is filled with almost everything you'll need to know about setting up your own home recording studio. It's a very helpful guide and has a ton of information and tips on some of the minimal gear you would need to get started. Record at home on a budget will also help you with advice on which gear to buy and how to use that gear to get the best results. It goes further into detail about how to mix and get the best possible sound with what you have. I've been recording for over 10 years and a lot of the information wasn't helpful for me because I had already experimented with buying all kinds of stuff I didn't really need, but if I had this book when I started it would have kept me from wasting so much money. If you're thinking of getting into home recording this book will be very helpful and will set you in the right direction. I'm still experimenting with some of the things I learned in this book and I'm positive it will help me with future recording decisions.

This book is extremely detailed, providing clear information on how get high quality recordings using affordable gear. It not only thoroughly covers the principles of audio engineering practices, but it also offers suggestions on equipment with a good bang-to-buck ratio. The included CD with sound samples help drive home the techniques, and the author describes exactly what he's doing to achieve the sounds. The main objective of the book is to demonstrate that it does not require a multi-thousand dollar investment to start making great recordings, and it does a great job of that. I have a few years experience with home recording, and I found a lot of useful information in this book. However, I can also see how it would be incredibly valuable for someone just starting out. If you're wanting to make great records without breaking the bank, you should really get this book!
