ABSTRACT
Uric acid was identified as a marker of metabolic disorders. Hyperuricaemia plays a role as a risk factor in the development of diabetes and metabolic syndrome on healthy and prediabetes subjects. On the contrary, diabetes may reduce the risk of hyperuricaemia and gout because of the uricosuric effect that appeared at the level of blood glucose over than 180 mg/dl as the present of glucosuric effect. Aim of this study were to determine the correlation between uric acid with HbA1C, fasting blood glucose, 2 hours post prandial and lipid profile ( total cholesterol, trigliseride, HDL and LDL) in type 2 diabetes and to determine is there any difference of uric acid levels in controlled and uncontrolled diabetes. A cross sectional study had been done in82patientsfrom the outpatientof HajiAdamMalikHospital from May until July2014. Measurement of haemoglobin, ureum, creatinin, uric acid, HbA1C, fasting blood glucose, 2 hours post prandial and lipid profile were conducted. There were significant negative correlation between uric acid level with HbA1C(r=-0,407; p=0,0001), fasting blood glucose (r=-0,338; p=0,002) and 2 hours post prandial (r=-0,318; p=0,004). There were significant difference of uric acid levels between controlled and uncontrolled diabetes (p=0,006). As the conclusion higher of HbA1C levels, fasting blood glucose and 2 hours post prandial in type 2 diabetes, so the level of uric acid will decrease because of the present of uricosuric and glucosuric effect.
