ABSTRAK
Tokoh merupakan salah satu unsur terpenting dalam sebuah cerita fiksi salah satunya yaitu novel. Tokoh terbagi atas dua jenis yaitu tokoh utama dan tokoh pendukung. Kertas karya ini berjudul “The Description of Characters in The Novel Sizzling Sixteen by Jannet Evanovich”. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan tokoh-tokoh yang terdapat di dalam novel yaitu Stephanie Plum dan Bobby Sunflower. Kertas karya ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan menganalisa data yang ada di dalam novel tersebut. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori Edgar V. Roberts dan Henry E. Jacobs (1995) untuk menganalisa tokoh cerita dalam novel tersebut. Data yang digunakan adalah sebuah novel berjudul Sizzling Sixteen oleh Jannet Evanovich. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah deskripsi tokoh utama (protagonis) yaitu Stephanie Plum yang berperan sebagai seorang pemburu uang jaminan dan tokoh pendukung (antagonis) yaitu Bobby Sunflower yang berperan sebagai seorang mafia yang kejam. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis juga mendeskripsikan beberapa unsur lainnya yaitu plot, point of view, dan setting untuk mendukung pendeskripsian karakter.
ABSTRACT
Character is one of the most important elements in a fictional story and one of them is novel. The characters are divided into two types, there are main character and minor character. This paper is entitled “The Description of Character in The Novel Sizzling Sixteen by Jannet Evanovich”. The purpose of this study is to describe the characters of Stephanie Plum and Bobby Sunflower that are found in the novel. This paper uses descriptive qualitative research method by analyzing the data that is in the novel. The theory used is theory of Edgar V. Roberts and Henry E. Jacobs (1995). The data used is a novel entitled Sizzling Sixteen by Jannet Evanovich. The result of this study is the description of the main character (protagonist) Stephanie Plum who role as bounty hunter and minor character (antagonist) is Bobby Sunflower who acts as a dangerous mafia. In this study the author also describes several other elements that plot, point of view, and setting, to support the description of the characters in the novel.

certificate from English Study Program, University of Sumatra Utara.

University of Sumatra Utara, Dr. Budi Agustono, M.S and all the staffs for their
help during the period of study in this faculty.
I would like to thank to Drs. Matius C.A. Sembiring, M.A as the Head of
English Department for giving all facilities and opportunities during my academic
years and is completing this paper. I would like to express my special gratitude to
my Supervisor Dra. Diah Rahayu Pratama, M.Pd for all her time, advice,
support, and the willingness to share time in correcting this paper throughout the
preparation of this paper and the period of doing this paper. I also would like to
thank to Drs. Siamir Marulauf, M.Hum as my reader who gives the correction
