JOINT STATEMENT BETWEEN

THE MINISTRY OF ENERGY AND MINERAL RESOURCES OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA

AND

THE MINISTRY OF ENERGY, GREEN TECHNOLOGY AND WATER OF MALAYSIA

ON

THE ACCELERATION OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF POWER INTERCONNECTION PROJECTS BETWEEN INDONESIA-MALAYSIA

UNDER ASEAN POWER GRID FRAMEWORK

Bali, Indonesia, 12 Februari 2016,

1. A bilateral meeting between the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Sudirman Said, and Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water of Malaysia, H.E. Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili, was held in Bali, Indonesia, 12 February 2016.

2. The Ministers recognized the achievements under the ASEAN Plan of Action on Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2010-2015 and considered the APAEC 2016 - 2025 Phase I (2016 - 2020), which encourages the implementation of the ASEAN Power Grid, especially a bilateral power interconnection between Indonesia and Malaysia.

4. The Ministers referred to the Memorandum of Understanding on the ASEAN Power Grid, signed in Singapore, 23 August 2007, as the umbrella of the implementation of the power interconnection projects between Indonesia and Malaysia, namely:

a. The Peninsular Malaysia (Malacca) - Sumatera (Pekanbaru); b. Sarawak (Kuching) - West Kalimantan (Pontianak);

c. East Sabah (Tawau) - North Kalimantan (Tarakan).

5. The Ministers agreed to accelerate the implementafion of the power interconnection projects between Indonesia and Malaysia under the ASEAN Power Grid Framework, through the establishment of the Malaysia-Indonesia Joint Technical Committee, which is reflected in the Terms of Reference (appendix).
