HE GOVERNMENT officially accelerates

the ban on nickel ore exports on January 1, 2020. Based on Government Regulation (PP) No. 1 of 2017, stopping exports of low grade nickel ore of less than 1.7% should take effect in January 2022.

The Director General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bambang Gatot Ariyono said the acceleration of the export ban was not applied to other commodities. Thus, companies that export other commodities such as bauxite and copper can still export until 2022.

"Consideration there are (related to) reserves, there are smelters being built. If there

two bauxite (smelters), there are two copper, so they are still in accordance with the old regulations," he said, Monday (2/9).

The construction of nickel smelters in the country has reached 36 units. As many as 11 smelters have been built and 25

under construction.

From the reserve side, for Indonesia's national nickel commodity there were 698 million tons which were considered to only guarantee the supply of nickel ore for refining facilities for 7 years to 8 years. That way, the existing reserves cannot meet the economic life of the refining facility so the government needs to stop the recommendation of the export of low grade nickel ore until 31 December 2019. From 2017 to July 2019 the number of nickel ore export recommendations is 76.27 million tons with the realization 38.30 million tons.

carry out action to split the nominal value of shares or stock split to encourage liquidity and open access to retail investors.

Based on information disclosure on Tuesday (3/9/2019), the MDKA issuer will hold an extraordinar

meeting of shareholders (EGMS) on September 25, 2019. In that agenda, Merdeka Copper Gold will ask for approval to split the par value of shares.

When asked for confirmation, Merdeka Copper Gold Corporate Secretary Adi Adriansyah Sjoekri said the planned stock split with a ratio of 1: 5 was taken to increase the number of shares of the company in circulation. Thus, the corporate action can encourage MDKA stock trading liquidity on the Indonesia Stock Exchange.

"In addition, the company also hopes with the increasing number of shares outstanding, the company will open access for retail investors to invest in the company's shares," he told Bisnis on Tuesday (03/09/2019).

Based on data from Merdeka Copper Gold shareholders as of 31 July 2019, the were five parties who narrowed the ownership of MDKA with a percentage above 5%. First, Garibaldi Thohir was 391.81 million shares or 8.94%.

Menurut Bahlil, pemajuan larangan ekspor ore Nikel akan membuat pengusaha nasional bangkrut. Karena, tambah dia, ratusan pengusaha nikel selama ini sudah berupaya membangun smelter bahkan progress pembangunannya sudah sampai 30%.

On Monday (2/9/2019), the Indonesian Nickel Mining Association (APNI) reported its fate to the DPR. The APNI businessman was received directly by the Chairman of the DPR Bambang Soesatyo and members of the DPR across commi ssion s, such as Commission XI represented by Maruarar Sirait and Misbakhun, Commission VII Fadel Muhammad, and Commission IV Robert Cardinal.

Meanwhile, APNI was attended by the Chair person Insmerda Lebang, General Secretary Meidy Katrin Lengkey, and a number of other nickel mining entrepreneurs.

APNI conveyed the condition of nickel mining in Indonesia. APNI addressed a number of issues such as the trade system for the domestic nickel ore trade, the value added of the smelter in accordance with Law No. 4 of 2009, and state revenue from the downstream nickel mining sector. "We also say that many foreign share holders in the mining sector exceed 49%. In addition to the use of unregistered surveyors," said Insmerda Lebang.

APNI Secretary General Meidy Katrin Lengkey added there would be poten losses to national mining entrepreneurs who were progressing to build 16 smelters. Estimated losses reached Rp 50 trillion. "The progress of the construction of 16 smelters is already 30 percent. Our target is completed in 2022 according to Government Regulation No. 1 of 2017. One of the capital gains is from the export of nickel. If the export ban is accelerated, smelter construction cannot continue. As a result, around 15,000 local workers existing in 16 smelters may be laid off. The non-operation of 16 smelters in 2022 also makes the country lose potential revenue reaching USD 261,273 million per year from the output of smelter products in the form of NPI/FeNi," explained Meidy Katrin Lengkey.
