He is a sailing instructor for dinghies and cruising keelboats with the Centor Velico Caprera, the largest sailing/seamanship school in the Mediterranean. Flavio has worked as a yacht surveyor, yacht designer, and is currently employed as a naval architect at the head office of the Registro Italiano Navale, which is the Italian equivalent of the American Bureau of Ships (ABS). He has also been team captain and chief designer of the Trieste Waterbike Team, current holder of the Guinness record for longest distance covered in 24 hours.
