Language is a tool for human to communicate with others. Language is always develops from time to time because of the human need and social conditions. Language can be used to represent who someone is. People may talk to someone in a formal or informal way. One of the example languages to use is slang. Slang can be found in daily life and any kinds of media such as movie.

This research aims to find out the types of slang words which are used in “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge out of Water”. Besides, the slang has its function in order to prevent misunderstanding in communication between each others. It is important because slang is used in different context and present different meaning too.

This research is descriptive qualitative research. This method is used to describe and explain the result of the research dealing with the slang words and its function. Researcher collected data by utilizing the transcript of the movie. Then the researcher analyzes the data classifying the slang’s types and determining the functions of the slang words used in “The SpongeBob movie: Sponge out of Water”.

The results of this research reveal that there are thirty three slangs used in “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water”. There are five types of slang found in the movie. The five types of slang are fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, clipping, and acronym. Additionally, there are also three functions of slang found in the movie such as pursuit of self-identity, emotive, feeling function, and achieving politeness.

Through this research, researcher suggests the students to learn slang in order to understand more about slang and know how to use it well. In the same line, the researcher suggests the teachers to teach slang because slang can be one of the innovations to make the class feel more alive. Lastly, the researcher also suggests the future researchers to add more information and collect the data from various ways or media.

Bahasa adalah alat bagi manusia untuk berkomunikasi dengan orang lain. Bahasa selalu berkembang dari waktu ke waktu karena kebutuhna manusia dan kondisi social. Bahasa dapat digunakan untuk mewakili siapa seseorang. Orang dapat berbicara dengan seseorang secara formal atau informal. Salah satu contoh bahasa yang digunakan adalah bahasa gaul (slang). Slang dapat di temukan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari dan segala jenis media seperti film.

Penelitian ini bertujuan unutk mengetahui jenis-jenis kata slang yang digunakan dalam “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge out of Water”. Selain itu, bahasa gaul juga memiliki fungsi untuk mencegah kesalahpahaman dalam komunikasi antara satu sama lain. Ini penting karena bahasa gaul digunakan dalam konteks yang berbeda dan menghadirkan makna yang berbeda pula.

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualiltatif deskriptif. Metode ini digunakan untuk menggambarkan dan menjelaskan hasil penelitian yang berhubungan dengan kata-kata slang dan fungsinya. Peneliti mengumpulkan data dengan menggunakan transkrip film. Kemudian peneliti menganalisis data yang mengklasifikan jenis-jenis slang dan menentukan fungsi kata-kata slang yang digunakan dalam “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water”.

Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa ada tiga puluh tiga slangs yang digunakan dalam “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water”. Ada lima jenis bahasa gaul yang di temukan dalam film. Lima jenis bahasa gaul adalah segar dan kreatif, kurang ajar, meniru, klipping, dan akronim. Selain itu, ada juga tiga fungsi bahasa gaul yang ditemukan dalam film seperti mengejar identitas diri, fungsi perasaan emosi, dan mencapai kesopanan.

Melalui penelitian ini, peneliti menyarankan siswa untuk belajar bahasa gaul agar dapat memahami lebih banyak tentang bahasa gaul dan tahu bagaimana menggunakannya dengan baik. Di baris yang sama, peneliti menyarankan para guru untuk mengajar bahasa gaul karena bahasa gaul dapat menjadi salah satu inovasi untuk membuat kelas terasa lebih hidup. Terakhir, peneliti juga menyarankan peneliti masa depan untuk menambahkan lebih banyak informasi dan mengumpulkan data dari berbagai cara atau media.
