ABSTRACT
Background : Decubitus ulcer also known as pressure sore or bedsore is a localized tissue damage to the skin and underlying tissue that is caused by pressure, shear, or friction, or a combination of these as a result of compression between a bony prominence and external surface. Management of decubitus ulcer involves including an extensive approach. One of them is wound dressings to protect and accelerate wounds healing. Honey is a biological wound dressing with multiple bioactivity that work together to accelerate the healing process. The use of antibiotics that has been so widely may trigger resistance. Researcher want to know whether honey can be used as an alternative therapy on decubitus ulcers because honey has properties that can accelerate wound healing process. In Indonesia, data
have been published on the effectiveness of honey dressings on healing process of decubitus ulcers was limited, therefore this study is to find out effectiveness of a honey dressing on decubitus ulcer healing process compare to mupirocin 2% ointment which measured with PUSH score tools.
Objective : To know effectiveness dressing honey therapy compare to mupirocin 2% ointment on decubitus healing process.
Methods : Design of this study was single blind randomized clinical trial.
Results : There was no difference in the effectivenes of therapy between honey dressing and 2% mupirocin ointment in the healing process of decubitus ulcer.
Conclusion : Honey dressing is as effective as mupirocin 2% ointment in the decubitus ulcer healing process.
Keywords : decubitus ulcer, honey dressing, mupirocin 2% ointment
