About the topic/technology

An understanding of the principles of structural behavior is essential for architects, builders, and structural engineers. In order to design and build a structure that will stand up and withstand wind, earthquakes and other forces, the architect must know how to create a form that will resist those forces. Structural design also involves understanding how the strength of building materials is used for efficient design.

While structural engineers specialize in making sure a design is safe and economically feasible, it is up to the architect to design the form based on structural principles, and the builder to create that form.
