Don't Underestimate! Coal Prices Skyrocketed 14% in a
Day
Hidayat Setiaji, CNBC Indonesia
C OAL prices rose. However, this increase has not been able to close the previous deep correction.
Yesterday, the price of coal on the ICE Newcastle (Australia) market was at US$
156.75/ton. Skyrocketed 14.33%
compared to the previous day.
It looks like this spike was caused by a technical rebound. Understandably, previously the price of the black stone had fallen for five consecutive days. During those five days, prices fell almost 32%.
Coal is being hit by negative issues. Two of the world's main coal consumers, China and India, are committed to start reducing coal consumption.
China is the most aggressive. The govern- ment of President Xi Jinping dared to set a target to reduce the use of coal for power generation by 2025.
Citing Reuters, China's National Develop- ment and Reform Commission (NDRC) targets Steam Power Plants (PLTU) to produce a maximum average of 300 grams of carbon dioxide emissions per kilowatt- hour (KWh) by 2025. This is done to improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
"Increasing energy savings and reducing the consumption of coal-fired electricity is an effective way to increase efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Reducing coal consumption...
No Kaleng-kaleng! Harga Batu Bara Meroket 14% dalam
Sehari
Hidayat Setiaji, CNBC Indonesia
H ARGA batu bara bangkit.
156,75/ton. Meroket 14,33% dibandingkan hari sebelumnya.
Sepertinya lonjakan ini disebabkan oleh technical rebound. Maklum, sebelumnya harga si batu hitam sudah anjlok selama lima hari beruntun. Selama lima hari tersebut, harga ambrol nyaris 32%.
Batu bara tengah diterpa isu negatif.
mengurangi konsumsi listrik bertenaga batu
bara adalah cara yang efektif untuk mening-
katkan efisiensi dan menurunkan emisi
karbon. Pengurangan konsumsi batu bara...

Reducing coal consumption will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 6.67 billion tons or around 36% of the industry's total emissions," said NDRC in written statement.
Carbon dioxide emissions from the power plant account for about 40% of the total emissions in the Bamboo Curtain country.
In 2020, the average PLTU produces carbon dioxide emissions of 305.5 grams per KWh.
If in 2025 there are still PLTUs that produce emissions above 300 KWh and cannot be repaired, they will be 'retired'. In addition, China will also defensively position the PLTU as a backup generator.
Later, the main power plant will be powered by renewable energy.
Previously, India also planned to do the same thing. The Indian government is targeting to achieve zero emission by 2070.
One of them is done by 'retiring' the power plant in stages.
CNBC INDONESIA RESEARCH TEAM (aji/aji)Pengurangan konsumsi batu bara akan mem- bantu menurunkan emisi karbondioksida sebanyak 6,67 miliar ton atau sekitar 36%
dari total emisi yang dihasilkan industri,"
sebut keterangan tertulis NDRC.

Preparations for winter and the limited supply of coal in export destination countries are also one of the conside- rations for the prospect of increasing demand for heavy equipment in Indonesia.
Solid revenue performance and a measurable cost management strategy have resulted in lower expense growth than revenue growth. Gross profit for the third quarter of 2021 grew 155.65% to US$ 16.83 million compared to the same period last year of US$ 6.58 million.
Likewise, operating profit grew significantly to US$ 7.11 million after last year's minus US$ 2.45 million. Profit growth was also shown by comprehensive income attributable to owners of the parent entity to US$ 4.68 million compared to the achievement of the same period last year minus US$ 5.47 million.

C HINA's coal prices have been heating up again, ending a 10-day losing streak of nearly half of their highs.
As reported by Bloomberg, Wednesday (11/3/2021) coal prices in China soared because the need for electricity for heating is expected to increase considering that November's winter is expected to be colder than previous years.
Traders weigh tight supply versus govern- ment policy considerations to keep prices from rising too high.

To encourage coal production, the Chinese government has reopened old mines, accelerated licensing issuance and relaxed a number of work safety rules.
The Chinese government also regulates prices to ensure power plants have incentives to be able to use all of their capacity to meet electricity needs.
Based on data from the China Coal Trans- portation and Distribution Association, coal production in the main Ordos mining area recorded a 15 percent growth in October compared to the previous month to 2.23 million tons per day.
The production has exceeded the total consumption of power plants for 25 days.
Meanwhile, supply has also risen 36 percent since late September.
Based on Bloomberg, on Wednesday (11/3/2021), the price of thermal coal on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange market rose 9.7 percent, closing at 978 yuan or equivalent to US $ 152.84 per ton.
The price was the first increase since hitting a record on October 19, 2020. Since then, coal prices have fallen by more than 50 percent in 10 trading sessions, the longest since March 2015.

In the mining sector, PT Freeport Indonesia carries out several strategies to reduce carbon emissions in its mining activities.
PT Freeport Indonesia President Director Tony Wenas said that efforts to reduce carbon emissions have become the company's commitment.
"Our commitment is to achieve a 30%
reduction by 2030, namely a reduction in the intensity of greenhouse gas," he said in an interview with CNBC Indonesia, quoted Wednesday (03/11/2021).
He explained that currently Freeport's mining in the open area has been completed, and has changed to an under- ground mining area. It is now carrying out energy efficiency by utilizing the under- ground electric train.
With the subway, you no longer use diesel/diesel-fueled trucks. This subway is used to transport 300 tons of ore at a time.
"This replaces a truck that uses diesel fuel, this is electric and controlled remotely.
This reduces 80,000 tons of CO2 each truck," he explained.
In addition, the electrical energy used now uses a dual fuel-based power plant, which uses 20% biodiesel (B20) and B30 which are more environmentally friendly and can also use gas.
"This is PLTMG, an oil and gas plant with a capacity of 130 MW," he continued.
According to Tony, his party is also making efforts to recycle used oil to support the government in fighting climate change.
"The recycled fuel becomes fuel for our drying plant in low land at the port and also for our lime processing plant in Grasberg," he said.
Daily News Update Page 9
He further said that Freeport continues to look for alternatives so that its operational activities pay attention to efforts to prevent climate change.
PT Freeport Indonesia targets that the underground mine will be fully operational next year, aka 100% capacity, from the current 90% capacity.
With the operation of this underground mine, Freeport estimates it will produce 1.5 million ounces of gold and 1.5 billion pounds of copper production by 2022.
This means, there will be an increase compared to this year's production. By the end of 2021 it is estimated that Freeport will produce 1.3 million ounces of gold and nearly 1.3 billion pounds of copper.
(wia)Lebih lanjut dia mengatakan, Freeport terus mencari alternatif agar kegiatan operasionalnya memperhatikan upaya pencegahan perubahan iklim.

Avere Investama Director, Teguh Hidayat sees that the retirement of coal-fired power plants to be replaced with clean energy plants is still in the long term.
Therefore, Teguh projects that this sentiment will have an impact on short- term corrections to coal issuers, which previously had already gone up high due to the increase in coal commodity prices in the international market.
"So coal stocks will correct, but not decrease much. This sentiment may have an impact one week to a month at most after the COP26 issue subsides," he explained to Kontan.co.id, Wednesday (3/11).
According to him, although coal stocks will correct in the short term, if the financial reports are out and the results are good, coal stocks will certainly rise again. Teguh said that when coal stock prices fell, this could be a time for investors to buy at a lower price.
Basically, Teguh sees, investors who collect shares of coal issuers never shrink in the long term or up to 10 years . The consideration, because the price of coal is very volatile.
"Investors who buy coal stocks have a maximum horizon of one year to three years. So, if the time horizon is only 6 months to 12 months, of course the shares are still interesting to collect," said Teguh.
When asked about stock recommen- dations, Teguh said that there is no need to be specific in choosing certain coal stocks.
According to him, as long as coal issuers have good financial performance, do not have a lot of debt, and are supported by rising coal commodity prices, usually coal stocks will bring in cash.
saham batubara tertentu. Menurutnya, selama
emiten batubara memiliki kinerja keuangan
yang baik, tidak memiliki utang banyak, serta
ditunjang dengan naiknya harga komoditas
batubara, biasanya saham batubara akan
mendatangkan cuan.

However, as an illustration, Teguh gave a number of names of issuers that were in the spotlight, namely PT Indo Tambang- raya Megah Tbk (ITMG), PT ABM Inves- tama Tbk (ABMM), and PT Mitrabara Adiperdana Tbk (MBAP).
Namun, sebagai gambaran saja, Teguh memberikan sejumlah nama emiten yang menjadi sorotannya, yakni PT Indo Tambangraya Megah Tbk (ITMG), PT ABM Investama Tbk (ABMM), dan PT Mitrabara Adiperdana Tbk (MBAP).
KPPU Reminds No Monopolistic Practices in Nickel Mine Survey
T HE POLEMIC regarding the difference in the calculation of nickel content is still a polemic. Although in fact the government has determined a number of surveying companies that are allowed and permitted to verify the nickel content on the down- stream side.
Chairman of the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU), Kodrat Wibowo, reminded that there should be no discrimination or monopolistic actions in business practices, including in the nickel industry.
Kodrat assessed that in the case of appointing a surveyor at a nickel location, it could be categorized as discrimination.
The article is indeed between business actors. Meanwhile, in the case of nickel surveyors, there is a possibility that other parties may be involved. So, according to Kodrat, Article 22 of Law No. 5 of 1999 concerning the Prohibition of Conspiracy in Tenders can be adopted.
In the Regulation of the Business Compe- tition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) No.
02 of 2010 concerning Guidelines for Article 22 of Law no. 5 of 1999 concerning the Prohibition of Conspiracy in Tenders, it is stated that the definition of a tender includes an offer to submit a price for:
KPPU Wanti-Wanti Jangan Ada Praktik Monopoli Dalam Survei
Tambang Nikel
P OLEMIK mengenai selisih penghitungan kadar nikel masih menuai polemik.
Persaingan Usaha (KPPU) No. 02 Tahun
2010 tentang Pedoman Pasal 22 UU No. 5

pengertian tender itu mencakup tawaran

(1) buying or carrying out a job; (2) procuring goods and/or services; (3) buying goods and/or services; (4) selling goods and/or services.
"The predictable possibility is that this other party has the authority to appoint the nickel surveyor. If this is what I caught there was procurement for surveyors, then why did many surveyors win, that's all that was appointed. In terms of procurement, right, there was a tender "The procure- ment of this tender can take Article 22 concerning collusion and conspiracy, between business actors from other parties. Other parties are vertical, namely, those who have the authority to appoint, and those who have procurement authority,"
said Kodrat, Tuesday (2/21/2021).
Direct appointments may be excluded, if all are based on the legal hierarchy, there is a law, there is a government regulation, there is a ministerial regulation, which appoints certain parties. But if everything has to go through procurement, like it or not, comply with the procurement rules, and KPPU can enter to conduct an investigation.
"KPPU will see if it is in accordance with article 22, regarding tender conspiracy, business actors with other parties. Based on the fatwa of the Constitutional Court, other parties who have the authority, in this case the procurement party, can also be the government that supervises the surveyors," said Kodrat.
Report to KPPU
If this is allowed to be clearly detrimental.
Therefore, KPPU hopes that, if someone feels that they have been harmed, they should report it to KPPU. He reminded that only one business actor is created, including monopolistic practices. Winning one side, at the expense of another, is not allowed.
tegas Kodrat.
Lapor ke KPPU
Kalau ini dibiarkan sudah jelas merugikan.
Karena itu, KPPU berharap, jika ada
merasa dirugikan, laporkan ke KPPU. Ia
mengingatkan, yang namanya membuat
satu pelaku usaha saja, termasuk praktik
monopoli. Memenangkan satu pihak,
dengan merugikan orang lain, tidak diper-
bolehkan.
Daily News Update Page 13
For example, was it when the surveyor registered but was deemed unworthy, defeated, or was there really a conspiracy between business actors, or business actors and other parties?
"Because this is a service provision, while there are many business actors, if there are indications of monopoly, discrimination, KPPU can take the initiative. If there is no report, but it is considered a phenomenon that needs to be resolved, KPPU will take this case as an initiative. But it would be better if there was a report, so that there is no need for a commission meeting. From the report, it is confirmed, if an initial indication is found, KPPU will go ahead, no matter who is involved, the business actors or other parties," said Kodrat.
However, if it is based on the KPPU's initiative, in carrying out the handling, it will take time compared to reports from parties who feel aggrieved, feel sidelined for no apparent reason, and even better, there is a rebuttal but the objection is not accepted.
He also reminded that surveyors also need to obey the technical rules made. If you do not carry out the procedure and are instead appointed, then the quality of the work can also be said to be inappropriate.
"It means that something is wrong, the quality of the work is not appropriate, the period of use continues. KPPU will study, the term is to conduct an initial investi- gation. However, it would be better if the perpetrators who were harmed filed a report, because it would speed things up.
There are indications that can be used convincingly, legally valid , by KPPU," said Kodrat.
KPPU
akan mempelajari, istilahnya lakukan
penyelidikan awal. Namun akan lebih baik
ada pelaku yang dirugikan ajukan laporan,
karena akan mempercepat. Ada indikasi
yang bisa digunakan secara menyakinkan,
sah secara hukum, oleh KPPU," tegas
Kodrat.

Indonesia's Coal Giant Forecast Amid the Threats of India &
China
Wilda Asmarini, CNBC Indonesia
T HE INDONESIAN coal giant, PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI) has also raised its voice amid the continuing fall in coal prices, coupled with the threat of reducing coal consumption from China and India.
Dileep Srivastava, Independent Director and Corporate Secretary of BUMI, said that his party is still optimistic that coal prices will still be high at least until the first quarter of 2022.
Not without reason, according to him, the tighter world coal supply and also the weather factor at the end of the year and early next year is expected to be a factor that coal prices have the chance to remain high until early 2022.
According to him, the current drop in coal prices is also influenced by sentiment, especially from China.
"This is influenced by sentiment (mostly led by China). The fact is that there is no coal availability in the spot market (Bumi's coal has been sold out until January 2022, rain will affect production) at this time, so spot prices can remain high. So, it is still there is hope," he said via text message, quoted on Wednesday (11/03/2021).
He said demand for coal will continue to increase until early next year, especially when the electricity crisis is still over- shadowed. On the other hand, the avail- ability of coal in the spot market will be limited, so this could trigger coal prices to remain high at the beginning of next year.
Ramalan Raksasa Batu Bara RI di Tengah Ancaman India &
China
Wilda Asmarini, CNBC Indonesia
tuturnya melalui pesan singkat, dikutip Rabu (03/11/2021).
Dia mengatakan, permintaan batu bara akan
tetap meningkat hingga awal tahun depan,
terutama saat masih dibayang-bayangi krisis
listrik.

"Demand is increasing, but there is no availability this quarter and Q1 2022 could also be tight," he said.
According to him, the current problem is can the world live with a shortage of electricity? That will happen if the world's coal supply is not able to meet future electricity needs. Moreover, funding for coal capacity building projects is often rejected.
"Demand will increase but supply is limited. This will lead to the prospect of rising coal prices in the future," he said.
PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI) targets this year to be able to produce coal in the range of 85-90 million tons, an 11 percent increase compared to the 2020 realization of 81 million tons.
BUMI's business units engaged in coal mining include Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC), Arutmin Indonesia, and Coal Energy Pendopo. BUMI is said to be Indonesia's coal giant because almost 14% of national coal production comes from BUMI. As is known, this year, Indonesia's coal produc- tion is targeted to reach 625 million tons.
The price of coal on the ICE Newcastle (Australia) market yesterday, Tuesday (02/11/2021), was recorded at US$ 137.1 per ton, down 1.37% compared to the previous day.
Now the price of coal has fallen for five consecutive days. During those five days, the correction reached 31.79%. On October 26, 2021, the price of coal touched US$ 201 per tonne. In fact, coal touched a record high of US$ 280 per ton on October 5, the highest since at least 2008.
Over the past few days, two of the world's largest coal "eating" countries, namely India and China, have announced they are reducing coal consumption in order to reduce carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality.
Pada 26 Oktober 2021, harga batu bara sempat menyentuh US$
201 per ton. Bahkan, batu bara sempat menyentuh rekor tertinggi yakni US$ 280 per ton pada 5 Oktober, tertinggi setidaknya sejak 2008 lalu.
Selama beberapa hari belakangan ini, dua
negara "pemakan" batu bara terbesar di
dunia, yakni India dan China, mengumumkan
untuk mengurangi konsumsi batu bara demi
mengurangi emisi karbon dan mencapai
netral karbon.

India, for example, at COP 26 in Glasgow, yesterday, Tuesday (02/11/2021) said it would achieve carbon-free by 2070.
Therefore, the country will reduce fossil energy and will increase the installed capacity of renewable energy by 2030.
Most of it is energy. solar energy, from 450 Giga Watt (GW) to 500 GW.
As much as 50% of the country's energy needs will come from renewable sources.
India also announced that the carbon intensity of India's economy -emissions generated per unit of GDP- will decrease by 45% in 2030, from 35% previously.
After India, China also revealed that it would reduce the average coal consump- tion of power plants to 300 grams per kilo Watt hour (kWh) by 2025.
China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) also said inefficient power plants would also be shut down gradually. This announcement was made by China at the end of the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, England. The Chinese president himself was not present at the event in person.
(wia)Downward Trend Continues, Coal Prices Become Like This

Daily News Update Page 17
Meanwhile, coal for the December 2021 contract was priced at US$137.10 per metric ton, down 1.90 points compared to the previous trade.
The negative trend of this commodity occurred shortly after the Chinese govern- ment intervened in coal mining to increase production ahead of winter. In addition, Xi Jinping also pressured mining companies to suppress selling prices in the market.
“China's average daily output increased by more than 1.2 million tonnes to a record above 11.6 million tonnes on October 18.
Moreover, the country's coal imports surged 76 percent in September, especially from Russia and Indonesia," reported Tradingeconomics, Wednesday (3/11/
2021).
This intervention makes it easier for power generation companies to supply energy fuels. The plant now has a stockpile of 16 days of raw materials, compared to October with only two days of stock.
A report from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia also said the number of Chinese provinces experiencing energy shortages was gradually falling. This decline is quite sharp from the previous energy crisis experienced by 18 provinces in early October, to two provinces in mid-October.
Domestically, the Indonesian Coal Mining Association (APBI) asked the government not to issue regulations on coal amid the anomaly in world coal prices.
APBI Executive Director Hendra Sinadia said that the high price of this commodity was only temporary. Therefore, coal prices are prone to plummeting in line with the policies of world governments, including China.
Direktur Eksekutif APBI Hendra Sinadia
mengatakan bahwa harga tinggi komoditas
ini hanya bersifat sementara. Sebab itu,
harga batu bara rentan anjlok seiring
dengan kebijakan pemerintah dunia ter-
masuk China.

He said that China's intervention in mining companies in the country had an impact on reducing the interest of entrepreneurs to invest in the coal sector. According to him, the government needs to take a stand to ensure this investment continues.
"To encourage investment interest, the government should consider not issuing regulations that add to the burden on companies, especially the coal mining industry," he told Bisnis, Monday (1/11/
2021).

Demand to keep tin price on a tear — report
MINING.com Editor
I N ITS LATEST industry report, market analyst Fitch Solutions revised up its average tin price forecast for 2021 and 2022 from $28,000/tonne and $26,000/tonne previously to $30,500/
tonne and $32,500/tonne, respectively, to account for the surge in prices to record highs in the year-to-date
In October, tin prices reached a record high of $38,215/tonne in a build up that started in March 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic.
Since 2020 prices have been on a strong uptrend, due to severe supply tightness resulting from covid-19 lockdowns, especially in Malaysia and Indonesia, major tin producers accounting for a combined 30% of global refined tin production in 2020, Fitch notes, that has yet to match up with demand despite easing slowly.
The slow pace at which global tin supply has recovered from the covid-19 pandemic has been significantly outpaced by the rapid recovery in demand, especially as tin is used in electronics through solders in semiconductors, a sector that saw a massive spike in demand during the pandemic due to the increased sales of medical as well as home equipment and personal devices.
The resulting reduction of global refined tin stockpiles has continued to force prices higher in the year-to-date, and left the market significantly exposed to price increases during China’s power crunch, Fitch says.
With tin solder being a major part of photovoltaic cells, that are the main components that make up a solar panel, demand for tin during China’s power crunch also sky-rocketed.
Fitch expects the tin market’s fundamentals to ease slightly going into 2022, driven by supply increases.
While China’s tin output in September 2021 declined by 4.7% month-on-month as a result of power rationing and environmental inspections, October production rose by 12.5%
m-o-m due to an easing of China’s power crunch. At the same time, as of October, 80% of
Malaysia Smelting Corporation Berhad’s (MSC) production was back online following covid-
19 lockdowns in Malaysia earlier in 2021.
Daily News Update Page 20
MSC is also expecting to commission its new and modern Pulau Indah smelting plant in early 2022, which will replace the aging inefficient smelter in Butterworth in Penang.
The new Pulau Indah plant, with a capacity 50% greater than that of Butterworth, is equipped with cutting-edge smelting technology of top submerged lance furnaces that saves costs by 30%, Fitch reports, adding that this will enable significant improvement in reaction and production rates as opposed to the aging reverberatory furnace in the Butterworth plant.
In Indonesia, PT Timah maintains its guidance for 2021 output at 30,000 tonnes, after a 57%
year-on-year decline in production in H121 due to lockdowns. However, Fitch expects the company will eventually reverse the significant production cuts made in 2020 by 2022, encouraged by high tin prices.
On the demand side, Fitch says, record-high prices for refined tin will start to result in rationing of demand by electronics manufacturers as they struggle to pass on higher input costs to end users.
Longer-term look
Fitch expects tin prices to remain on a firm uptrend in the coming decade. While prices will ease slightly from spot levels in 2022, Fitch forecasts they will still remain historically elevated, and edge higher to reach $35,500/tonne by 2030. In perspective, this is nearly double when compared to the 2016-2020 average of $18,729/tonne.
The analyst expects tin demand to continue outstripping supply, pushing the market into deficit by 2026. On the supply side, a thin pipeline of tin mining projects will tighten the tin concentrate market, leading to increased competition among smelters and constrained ore feed for refined output growth, Fitch says.
On the demand side, the global use of tin will increase rapidly through the metal’s use in electronics (especially as electric vehicles increasingly contain greater amounts of electronics in their body) and solar panels (in photovoltaic cells), cementing tin’s status as a commodity of the future.
Ultimately, this will allow the market to tighten and return to a production balance deficit by 2026 that will only grow deeper over the years.
Market tightness should begin
to ease by the end of 2021 and this should start to stabilise prices, Fitch says, but there will be
no collapse as demand will continue to be robust and increasingly outstrip supply.

Canada to phase out thermal coal exports by 2030 - PM
Ottawa plans to make C$185 million to assist coal workers and communities during the transition.
Jax Jacobsen
C ANADA will end the export of thermal coal by 2030, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said at the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow.
Canada is already working towards phasing out coal-powered electricity in the country by 2030, the PM said in a release.
The country exported between 11 and 13 million tonnes of thermal coal between 2018 and 2020, Mining.com reported.
Ottawa plans to make C$185 million to assist coal workers and communities during the transition. Canada will also invest up to C$1 billion in a fund to assist developing countries transition away from coal power to clean energy.
Canada will also provide C$25 million to fund the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program, which works with the World Bank to develop and implement clean energy policies in developing countries.
Phasing out coal-fired electricity will reduce the country's carbon pollution levels by nearly 13 million tonnes, according to the release.
The Canadian government will also work to reduce emissions from the country's oil and gas sector, the fourth largest in the world. The government will set 5-year targets as it aims to have the sector become a net-zero producer by 2050.
