About the topic/technology
Standards for education of interior designers have changed. All interior designers are to understand the concepts and theory of sustainability as it relates to interior design. With the development of LEED-CI, the rating system by the US Green Building Council, the application of William McDonough's "Cradle to Cradle" philosophy to interior design, and general movement of environmental responsibility, leaders in the design world have shifted their focus on what constitutes good design. Interior design should not add to the aesthetically attractive, safe, and functional, but also encourage the principles of environmental sustainability.

About the book
Introduces the principles of environmentally responsible design for interior environments. While "green" building and sustainability have been a focus in architectural design and building construction for a number of years, the interior design community is only beginning to apply the concepts and applications. Sustainable Interior Design supplies the beginning designer or experienced professional with a comprehensive survey, covering everything from theoretical approaches to current practices. By understanding the environmentally responsible approach, the interior designer will be able to make design decisions that are ethical and do not harm the world's environment.
