Printer

Printer adalah salah satu hardware (perangkat keras) yang terhubung ke komputer dan mempunyai fungsi untuk mencetak tulisan, gambar dan tampilan lainnya dari komputer ke media kertas atau sejenis. Istilah yang dikenal pada resolusi printer disebut dpi (dot per inch). Maksudnya adalah banyaknya jumlah titik dalam luas area 1 inci. Semakin tinggi resolusinya maka akan semakin bagus cetakan yang dihasilkan. Sebaliknya, jika resolusinya rendah maka hasil cetakanakan buruk / tidak bagus.

A. Jenis Jenis Printer : 1. Printer Dot Matrix

Printer Dot Matrix bekerja seperti mesin ketik, yaitu mentransfer tinta dari dari pita ke kertas dengan serangkaian titik-titik kecul yang membentuk matriks. Printer ini mempunyai kecepatan 500 cps (character per second). Umumnya, printer jenis dot-matrix hanya mempunyai satu warna, yaitu warna hitam. Tetapi saat

ini printer ini masih banyak digunakan karena memang terkenal 'bandel' (awet). Kelebihan lainnya, pita printer dot-matrix jauh lebih murah dibandingkan dengan toner (tinta) untuk printer jenis inkjet dan laser jet.

2. PrinterInkjet

Printer inkjet adalah printer yang menyemprotkan tinta dari cartridge langsung ke atas. Printer jenis ini mampu melakukan pencetakan berwarna maupun hitam putih. Kecepatannya 2-4 ppm (paper per minute) dan resolusinya 300-400 dot per inch (dpi).

3. Printer Laser

Printer laser adalah printer yang menggunakan teknologi yang sama seperti fotokopi, yaitu panas dan tekanan untuk mengikat toner ke atas kertas. Printer ini mempunyai resolusi antara 300-1.200 dpi atau lebih. Daya cetaknya juga cukup banyak bisa mencapai lebih dari 10 lembar per menit. Printer jenis ini mampu mencetak hitam putih maupun berwarna. Kualitas hasil cetak laser printer pun sangat bagus, sehingga mirip sekali dengan aslinya. Selain itu hasil cetakan cepat kering. Tetapi harga printer ini cukup mahal.

4. Printer Snapshot

Printer snapshot adalah printer berukuran kecil dan khusus. Printer ini digunakan untuk mencetak foto digital. Printer jenis ini biasanya tersedia di toko toko yang menawarkan jasa percetakan dan penerbitan. Printer jenis ini menghasilkan gambar berkualitas tinggi, seperti : Thermal Wax, Dye Sublimation, Fiery IRIS, Plotter.

B. Resolusi Cetak

Resolusi pada printer adalah kemampuan printer dalam menciptakan jumlah titik dalam satu inchi persegi. Misalnya, resolusi 720x 720 dpi (dot per inch) berarti printer tersebut dapat membuat 720 titik per 1 inchi vertical dan 720 titik per 1 inchi horizontal. Keterangan

mengenai resolusi cetak dalam sebuah printer biasanya diberikan pada manual book atau tempelan pada stiker di belakang sebuah printer.

C. Kecepatan

Kecepatan printer dinyatakan dalam PPM (page per minute). Semakin cepat dan semakin tajam tampilan yang dihasilkan, harga printer itupun semakin mahal. Kecepatan sebuah printer bergantung pada memori yang terdapat di mainboard dan jenis media pencetaknya. D. Teknik Cetak

Berdasarkan teknik cetak, dikenal dua macam printer yaitu impact dan non impact. Impact adalah printer yang melakukan teknik cetak dengan cara menekan (memukul) jarum head ke pita, sedangkan non impact ialah printer yang melakukan teknik cetak dengan cara menyemprot, termasuk jenis ini adalah printer inkjet dan toner.
