ABSTRACT
Diabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases that is commonly found with in age ranged from 20 to 79. HbA1c is a routinely-used-marker for diabetes mellitus type 2. If levels of HbA1c increases, it shows the worsening condition of insulin resistance. Insulin resistance causes abnormallipid profile. The aim of study is to examine the relation of HbA1c with lipid profile in diabetes mellitus type 2 patients at RSUP H. Adam Malik 2014.
Analytical observational study was chosen with retrospective design. A total of 120 people was used as samples which were taken using consecutive sampling through secondary data. Data was collected from medical records of patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 at RSUP H. Adam Malik from 1 January until 31 December 2014 whichrequiredinclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, too.
Based on analysis of 120 samples of the study, it was found that there was no correlation between HBA1c and total cholesterol (r =0.173, p = 0.059), HbA1c and triglyceride (r = 0.175, p = 0.056), HbA1c and HDL (r = -0.009, p = 0.925), HbA1c and LDL (r = 0.134, p = 0.145).
HbA1c cannot be used as a predictor of lipid profile in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. Whenever, HbA1c can be used as a good glycemic control in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2.
