The Effectiveness of Mind Mapping to Teach Writing of Descriptive Text
(An Experimental Study of Seventh Grade Students’ of
SMP Muhammadiyah1 Purwokerto in The Academic year of 2015/2016)

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of mind mapping to teach writing of a descriptive text. This research was conducted at SMP Muhammadiyah1 Purwokerto in the academic year of 2015/2016. The method of this research was quasi experiment. The total sampel was 36 respondents. The respondents were divide into control and experimental class. In collecting data, the writer used test as instrument. The test was administered twice. Then, first was pre-test and second was post-test. The test was an essay test in the form of writing based on certasin theme. After getting the data the writer used t-test to analyze the data collected. Method of analysis the data was quantitative.Based on result of data analysis, it was found that t-test result was , while t-table score at
significance level of а = 0.05 for df (degree of freedom): 34 was 1.691. So, the t-test was higher than t-table ( > 1.691). it means trhat the hypothesis which stated that mind mapping was effective to teach writing of a descriptive text at the seventh grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah1 Purwokerto in Academic year of 2015/2016 was accepted.
