This thesis is entitled, The Construction of Reality of Women Figure in the “Success Story” Section of Tribun Jabar by the Journalists of Tribun Jabar Morning Daily Newspaper. A Phenomenology Study about the Construction of Reality of Women Figure in the “Success Story” Section of Tribun Jabar by the Journalists of Tribun Jabar Morning Daily Newspaper. The main adviser is Dr. Hj. Siti Karlinah, M.Si and the associate adviser is Ipit Zulfan S.Sos, M.Ikom. Department of Journalism Studies, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Padjadjaran University, Jatinangor, Sumedang.
This research uses qualitative research method with phenomenology studies approach to explore how the subject constructed their life experience as a Tribun Jabar’s journalists in interpreting women entrepreneur figure in the “Success Story” section. The purpose of this
research is to determine what is the Tribun Jabar’s journalist’s motive to work on the weekly
writings, how the Tribun Jabar’s journalists selects which woman figure to be featured, and how the Tribun Jabar’s journalists interpret the woman entrepreneur figure featured in the
“Success Story” section. The data in this research is obtained through observation and in
-depth interviews with five informants that have influences on selecting which woman entrepreneur figure featured in the “Success Story” section in Tribun Jabar.
The research shows that while reporting, often times the journalists have different views with the editorial staff’s policy on attractive women figures that can be featured on the “Success Story” section in Tribun Jabar. The presence of the “Success Story” section in Tribun Jabar made the journalists have connections in the business industry and also income
from the advertisers. The result of the construction on women figures in the “Success Story”
section in Tribun Jabar by the Tribun Jabar’s journalists is physically beautiful, young, have clear skin, and have a proportional body type.
This research concludes that construction of reality is represented on every part of producing the “Success Story” section’s weekly report in Tribun Jabar. Every demeanor and action done by the journalists of the “Success Story” section is a result of internalization from every interaction result happened during the time with the Tribun Jabar’s editorial staff member. However, the final result still falls on the hands of the editor-in-chief whom has the biggest authority.
This researcher advises Tribun Jabar editorial staff to name the section that can represent the content of the aforementioned section in their newspaper, so it will not give multiple interpretations for their readers that lead to things such as gender bias.
