LETTER OF INTENT BETWEEN
THE MINISTRY OF MARINE AFFAIRS AND FISHERIES OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA
AND
THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES OF THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF TIMOR-LESTE
ON
MARINE AND FISHERY COOPERATION
The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste,
Desiring to enhance the existing bilateral relationship between the two countries for mutual benefit cooperation;
Recalling the principles of the United Nations Convention on The Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982 and international and regional initiatives to promote management and sustainable use of marine living resources;
Recognising the role and contribution of sharing knowledge and experience and technical know-how on issues relating to marine and fishery affairs to improve national development programs of the two countries;
Referring to the Joint Communique signed in Jakarta on the sth of
March 2011 between the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Democratic Republic of Timor -Leste;
Have reached the understanding on the intention to develop mutual beneficial cooperation on marine and fishery affairs through the following:
1. The establishment of bilateral mechanism at the earliest convenient with the aim to promote sustainable and responsible management of marine and fisheries resources, including the prevention and elimination of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, integrated coastal management and marine eco-tourism;
