Identity

PIKUL is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 1998. Since it's

establishment, PIKUL was mandated to strengthen local capacities and institutions in Eastern Indonesia. Currently, PIKUL serves its mandate by facilitating local champions and

communities to create and achieve their vision toward resiliency.

Values & Belief

PIKUL assumes principles of Pluralism and anti-discrimination, Social Solidarity, Popular Democracy, Non-Violence, Transparency and Accountability.

Vision & Mission

Vision: Kampung Berdaulat 2016!

where visioned communities are well organized, able to develop and manage their own resources and network, exhange their knowledge interdependently, act in solidarity inter and intra communities and individuals, solidarity with the environment, and ensuring their basic rights fulfillment.

Approach

Asset Based Approach, as PIKUL believes that all human and communities have their strenghts and resources, and with clear vision they would be able to reclaim their future.

Frame of Work and Learn

PIKUL uses Appreciative Inquiry (AI) as its frame of working and learning. With AI, PIKUL keeps on inquirying what best within people and communities, what are the potentials and

opportunities that would enable them to achieve their future vision.

Strategy & Activities

Strategy 1 | Learning Circle of Visioned Communities:

1. Discovering local actors with innovative actions

2. Envisioning actors and communities, area based and tematic based 3. Facilitating their innovation's acceleration and development

4. Facilitating their effective network, enable their learning process across geographical borders

Strategy 2 | Counter Discourse on Development:

1. Research on socio-ecological crisis and innovations in Eastern Indonesia. 2. Publications of community actors profile, visions and innovations.

Services

1. Providing Manuals/Guidance forcommunity based works, discussions and workshops:

a) Create New Reality, A Guide to Community Visioning, using Appreciative Inquiry method;

b) How to Understand Socio-Ecological Crisis, using SDE tool of analysis;

c) Discovering Champions, A guide to find actors of social changes; adopt Appreciative Interview Techniques.

d) Mulia tapi Beban: A working paper as discussion materials for gender mainstreaming.

2. Facilitating trainings and workshops for: a) Organization and communities visioning;

b) Leadership and Communication Strategy (adopting Manual “Perempuan Inspirasi Perubahan” developed by Inspirit);

c) Training for Strenghts Based and Creative Facilitators;

d) Training and workshop on Organization Development (partially adopting Manual “Barefoot for Organization and Social Changing”)

a) More than 30 local NGOs and CBOs across Eastern Indonesia and national leve. Mostly works on disaster risk reduction, natural resource management, women and human rights issues.

b) International organization, eg. ILO, FAO, ChildFund, CARE International Indonesia, etc.
