ABSTRACT
Chicken is susceptible for microbial balance in intestine causing nutrient absorption inefficiency, which might retard its growth. Farmers usually give antibiotic to handle chicken diseases. Long period of application might cause microorganism resistance to the antibiotic. To reduce antibiotic usage, alternatively isolated
probiotic resulted from chicken intestinal can be applied. Probiotic is microorganism which consumed in live condition, resistant for bile salt, can colonize to prevent patogen bacteria and benefit for healthy.
The objective of study was to investigate the effectiveness ofprobiotic Lactobacillus murinus Hik-3 to suppress Coliform and Salmonella bacteria population in chicken. The research treated 30 chickens of 14-day old with probiotic Lactobacillus murinus Hik-3. antibiotic, and control for 3 weeks. They were fed-forced with I ml probiotic daily. Microbiological analysis included identification of lactic acid bacteria population, total microbial of Salmonella and Coliform bacteria on sample feces.
The microbial analysis result of chicken feces showed that the population of lactic acid bacteria tended to decrease, while the population of Colifom, Salmonella, and total aerob microbial tended to be constant during treatment. Population of lactic acid bacteria on Lactobacillus murinus Hik-3 and antibiotic were constant. Further analysis of isolatedfeces revealed that application of isolated Lactobacillus murinus could not reside in chicken intestinal, and were not able as chicken probiotic agent.

ABSTRAK
Ternak ayam rentan terhadap keseimbangan mikroorganisme dalam saluran pencernaan, yang menyebabkan ketidakefisienan penyerapan nutrisi sehingga dapat memperlambat pertumbuhan. Selama ini peternak menggunakan antibiotik untuk mengatasi penyakit pada ayam. Penggunaan antibiotik secara terus menerus dapat menyebabkan terbentuknya mikroorganisme yang resisten terhadap antibiotik. Sebagai alternatif untuk mengurangi penggunaan antibiotik, digunakan probiotik hasil isolasi dari saluran pencernaan ayam. Probiotik adalah mikroorganisme yang dikonsumsi saat masih dalam keadaan hidup, tahan terhadap kondisi asam lambung, mampu berkolonisasi untuk mencegah bakteri patogen serta bermanfaat bagi kesehatan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mempelajari kemampuan probiotik Lactobacillus murinus Hik-3 dalam menekan populasi bakteri coliform dan Salmonella pada ayam
Penelitian menggunakan 30 ekor ayam berumur 14 hariyang diberiperlakuanprobiotik Lactobacillus murinus Hik-3, antibiotik dan kontrol. Perlakuan selama 3 minggu secara'force feeding' sebanyak I ml setiap hari. Analisis mikrobiologis meliputi identifikasi populasi bakteri asam laktat, total mikrobia, Salmonella dan coliform dilakukan pada sampel feses.
Hasil yang diperoleh dari uji mikrobiologi feses ayam menunjukkan bahwa populasi bakteri penghasil asam cenderung mengalami penurunan, sedangkan populasi coliform dan Salmonella, bakteri aerob cenderung
