Definisi
Teletraffic theory :
The application of probability theory to the solution of problems concerning planning, performance
evaluation, operation, and maintenance of telecommunication systems. (Iversen, 2002)
Tujuan teori teletraffic adalah :
to make the traffic measurable in well defined units, through mathematical models derive the
relationship between grade-of-service (GoS) and
system capacity in such a way that theory becomes a tool by which investments can be planned
Klasifikasi Tugas Rekayasa Trafik
Menurut Rekomendasi ITU tentang rekayasa trafik terdapat 4 klasifikasi tugas, yaitu:• Traffic demand characterisation,
• Grade of Service (GoS) objectives,
• Traffic control and dimensioning,
Traffic Demand Charaterisation
Traffic Demand Charaterisation (2)
• Traffic forecasting: dibutuhkan untuk tujuan planning and
dimensioning. Dalam proses
perencanaan seringkali
Grade of Service Objectives
• Quality of Service (QoS) dalam jaringan komunikasi
Traffic Controls and Dimensioning
Traffic Controls and Dimensioning
Traffic control meliputi:
• Traffic routing,
• Network traffic management controls,
• Service protection methods,
• Packet-level traffic controls,
Performance Monitoring
baik, kondisi-kondisi seperti overload
traffic, failure situations dsb yang
tidak dihitung dalam proses network
Beberapa Pertanyaan Menarik
Bagaimana Quality of Service (QoS) yang dialami pengguna?
Bagaimana suatu sistem di-dimensioning (ditentukan dimensinya)?
Hubungan Antar Ketiga Faktor
Rekayasa Trafik menentukan hubungan antara ketiga faktor:1. Quality of Service (QoS) 2. Traffic load (beban trafik),
Hubungan Antar Ketiga Faktor (2)
• Sistem dapat berupa
• Perangkat tunggal (link dalam jaringan IP, packet processor, dll)
• Seluruh atau sebagaian jaringan.
• Trafik terdiri atas:
• Bits, packets, burst, flow, calls, connections.
• Quality of Service:
Hubungan Antar Ketiga Faktor (3)
• Hubungan kualitatif:
• Untuk menyatakan hubungan antara ketiga faktor
secara kuantitatif,diperlukan model matematis

Dengan
Model dalam Rekayasa Trafik
• Model rekayasa trafik adalah model stokastik (probabilistik)
• Sistem biasanya bersifat deterministik, sedangkan trafik bersofat stokastik.
• “You never know, who calls you and when”.
• Waktu kedatangan panggilan.
• Variabel acak biasanya didefinisikan oleh fungsi distribusi, misalnya:
• Probabilitas terdapat n panggilan.
• Proses stokastik mendeskripsikan pergerakan waktu dari variabel acak.
Teletraffic Models
Dalam rekayasa trafik terdapat tiga tipe model:
• Loss systems,
• Queueing systems,
Simple Teletraffic Model
• Customers arrive at rate 𝜆 (customers per time unit).
• 1/𝜆=average inter-arrival time (waktu antar kedatangan).
• Customers are served by 𝑛 parallel servers.
• In the busy time, a server serves at rate 𝜇 (customers per time
unit)
• There are at least 𝑛 service places and at most 𝑚 waiting
places.
• It is assumed that block customers (arriving in full system) are lost.
Pure Loss System
• Finite number of servers (𝑛 < ∞), 𝑛 service places, no
waiting places (𝑚 = 0).
• If the system is full (with all 𝑛 servers occupied) when a customer
arrives,
• it is not served at all but lost
• Some customers may be lost
• From the customer’s point of view, it is interesting to know
e.g.
Infinite System
• Infinite number of servers (𝑛 = ∞), no waiting places
(𝑚 = 0)
• No customers are lost or even have to wait before getting served
• Sometimes,
• this hypothetical model can be used to get some approximate results for a real system (with finite system capacity)
• Always,
• it gives bounds for the performance of a real system (with finite system capacity)
• it is much easier to analyze than the corresponding finite capacity models
Pure Queueing System
• Finite number of servers (𝑛 < ∞), 𝑛 service places, infinite
number of waiting places (𝑚 = ∞)
• If all 𝑛 servers are occupied when a customer arrives, it occupies
one of the waiting places.
• No customers are lost but some of them have to wait before getting served
• From the customer’s point of view, it is interesting to know
e.g.
Lossy Queueing System
• Finite number of servers (𝑛 < ∞), 𝑛 service places, finite
number of waiting places (0 < 𝑚 < ∞)
• If all 𝑛 servers are occupied but there are free waiting places when
a customer arrives, it occupies one of the waiting places.
• If all 𝑛 servers and all 𝑚 waiting places are occupied when a
customer arrives, it is not served at all but lost.
• Some customers are lost and some customers have to wait before getting served.
Pure Sharing System
• Finite number of servers (𝑛 < ∞), infinite number of
service places (𝑛 + 𝑚 = ∞), no waiting places.
• If there are at most 𝑛 customers in the system (𝑥 ≤ 𝑛), each
customer has its own server. Otherwise (𝑥 > 𝑛), the total service rate (𝑛𝜇) is shared fairly among all customers.
• Thus, the rate at which a customer is served equals 𝑚𝑖𝑛 𝜇, 𝑛𝜇/𝑥 . • No customers are lost, and no one needs to wait before the
service.
• But the delay is the greater, the more there are customers in the system. Thus, delay is an interesting measure from the customer’s point of view.
Lossy Sharing System
• Finite number of servers (𝑛 < ∞), finite number of service
places (𝑛 + 𝑚 < ∞), no waiting places
• If there are at most 𝑛 customers in the system (𝑥 ≤ 𝑛), each
customer has its own server. Otherwise (𝑥 > 𝑛), the total service rate (𝑛𝜇) is shared fairly among all customers.
• Thus, the rate at which a customer is served equals 𝑚𝑖𝑛 𝜇, 𝑛𝜇/𝑥 . • Some customers are lost, but no one needs to wait before the
Little’s Law
• Consider a system where • new customers arrive at rate 𝜆.
• Assume stability:
• Every now and then, the system is empty
• Consequence:
• Customers depart from the system at rate 𝜆.
• Let
• 𝑁 = average number of customers in the system
• 𝑇= average time a customer spends in the system = average delay
• The Little’s formula
𝑁 = 𝜆. 𝑇
Little’s Law (2)
• Rumusan Little’s Law adalah sebagai berikut:
the average number of customers in a queueing system is equal to the average arrival rate of customers to that system, times the average time spent in that system.
𝑁 𝑞 is the average number of customers in the queue, 𝑊 refers to the average time spent waiting in the queue.
Little’s Law (3)
𝑁 𝑠 = 𝜆. 𝑠
𝑁 𝑠 refers to the average number of customers in the service facility (or facilities),
𝑠 refers to the average time spent in the service box. Note:
Perlu diketahui bahwa:
𝑁 = 𝑁𝑞 + 𝑁𝑠 𝑇 = 𝑊 + 𝑠
Latihan
