Oke, sekarang kita kembali ke wawancara dengan Diana, yang baru saja pulang dari Indonesia,

di mana dia menjadi relawan dalam program ‘Kemah Inspirasi’.

Kemah inspirasi ini, sebenarnya apa?

Kemah Inspirasi adalah program untuk anak pandai yang berasal dari keluarga miskin.

O begitu ... jadi apa tujuan program ini?

Tujuan program ini adalah untuk memberi kesempatan dan pengalaman yang luar biasa kepada 200

anak miskin yang punya potensi tinggi. Mereka dipilih untuk ikut program ini selama tiga puluh hari

untuk belajar banyak ketrampilan baru yang akan membantu mereka pada masa depan.

Bagaimana pengalaman Anda menjadi relawan di sana?

Sangat menyenangkan ... dan pasti tidak akan terlupakan sepanjang hidup saya. Saya belajar banyak

tentang budaya dan Bahasa Indonesia dan saya juga mendapat banyak teman baru.

Ceritakan sedikit tentang apa yang Anda lakukan di sana.

Yang saya lakukan bermacam-macam. Saya bekerja dengan sekelompok orang muda Indonesia

untuk menjalankan satu program pendidikan yang menarik untuk anak-anak. Saya harus mengajar

Bahasa Inggris, memasak dan ikut kegiatan olahraga setiap sore.

O begitu ... jadi itu semacam kemah kerja, bukan?

Ya … Selama tiga puluh hari itu kami melakukan kegiatan untuk mengembangkan ketrampilan dan

rasa percaya diri anak-anak itu. Selain itu kami membantu anak-anak belajar dan setiap hari ada

kegiatan olahraga seperti mendaki gunung dan berjalan kaki di hutan.

Jadi, bagaimana nasihat Diana untuk para pendengar yang tertarik dengan pengalaman seperti

itu?

Saya ingin mendorong para pendengar ikut program seperti ini karena ini akan menjadi pengalaman

positif untuk dirinya sendiri dan juga untuk orang lain.

TEXT 7

Pada bulan April tahun ini dunia konservasi berdukacita karena kehilangan seekor badak

Sumatera yang ada di tempat rehabilitasi di daerah Kalimantan Tengah.

Seorang ahli konservasi setempat bercerita, ‘Badak ini ditangkap untuk diobati karena terkena

infeksi berat pada kakinya.’ Dia menjelaskan, ‘Luka parah pada kaki binatang itu disebabkan

oleh perangkap pemburu. Sayang binatang itu tidak bisa diselamatkan.’ Dia melanjutkan, ‘Pada

saat ini setiap badak Sumatera penting. Penyelamatan mereka memerlukan kerjasama dengan

pemerintah dan pendanaan yang intensif.’

Kehilangan binatang ini merupakan masalah besar bagi dunia karena jumlah populasi badaknya

kecil sekali. Diperkirakan jumlah badak di seluruh dunia hanya 100 ekor dan akan punah

dalam jangka waktu 20 tahun kalau tidak ada strategi penanganan darurat. Pada awalnya badak

Sumatera tersebar di Sumatera dan di seluruh pulau Borneo sampai Sarawak. Tahun yang lalu,

badak Sumatera sudah dinyatakan punah di Sarawak.

Menurut seorang ahli yang lain walaupun keadaan ini cukup kritis masih ada harapan. Dia

berkata, ‘Sebelum tahun 2013 badak Sumatera dianggap sudah punah di pulau Borneo, tetapi

kami salah. Pada tahun itu ada temuan yang sangat mengejutkan. Beberapa peneliti orangutan

menemukan jejak kaki dan kotoran badak Sumatera di tengah hutan Kalimantan.’

Penemuan ini sangat penting, khususnya bagi konservasi di Indonesia karena penemuan ini

memberi harapan baru pada kelanjutan subspesies badak Sumatera di Kalimantan.

Sampai sekarang, tidak terbayangkan masih ada badak liar di tengah hutan Kalimantan karena

lingkungannya terancam oleh perkembangan industri, yaitu perluasan tambang dan penebangan

hutan.

Keberadaan binatang ini di hutan Kalimantan merupakan angin segar untuk dunia konservasi dan

memotivasi kita untuk terus bekerja melindungi binatang yang terancam ini.

9. You and your Indonesian friend are planning to travel together after you finish Year 12. You want

to travel through Indonesia, but your friend does not. Write an email to your friend in which you
