Research Question:

1. Studies suggest that the factors

that trigger students’

absenteeism can be classified

into four categories: causes

from home and family, causes

from the classroom, causes

from community, and causes

from personal characteristics of

the students (Etsey, 2005).

2. Families may prefer their

children to not attend the class

because of some reasons such

as going shopping, funerals,

weddings, going out of the city

or district or having guests at

home (Thornton, Darmody &

McCoy, 2013).

3. Students who do not or cannot

do the homework due to several

reasons do not want to attend

the class on that day (Altınkurt,

2008).

4. Students who cannot establish

good relationships with their

friends and teachers, or do not

like the teacher and the subjects

have a higher tendency to be

absent from the class (Fan and

Wolters, 2014).

5. The biggest cause of students’

medical problems (Yıldız and

Kula, 2012).

6. The distance of the location

where the students live to the

university and bad weather

conditions are the factors that

cause absenteeism (Ozbas,
