Itis not unlikely that the
Asa
andTewa
clansformed
a part of theTanoan
peoplewho
were forcedto leave theupper
RioGrande
valley directlyafter thegreatrebellionof 1680. Niel is said tohave stated^that atabout this time1,000

toTusayan by way
of Zufii,which is the trail the present
Asa
people saj- their ancestors took.We
are told that theywent
to Alaki, and as the Ala (Horn) jieople were then strong at the settlements of Walpi, on the terrace of the East mesa, it is not improbable that their villagewas
sometimescalled Alaki. or"Horn

which the Zunis.say is oneof their pueblos in theHopi
