'BYLAWS

Article I I I

Proposed Changes in Standard Form for Club Bylaws

Membership and Classification Classes of Membership

Section 1. Membership in this club shall be primarily of the active class as herein defined.

There may be only three (3) other classes of membership, namely, privileged, senior and honorary.

Active Membership

Section 2. (a) The active membership of this club shall consist of men of good character and community standing residing or having other connnunity interests within the area of this club.

(b) The active membership of this club shall be composed of a cross section of those who are engaged in recognized lines of business, vocation, agriculture, institutional or professional life; or who having been so en- gaged, shall have retired. The active member- ship of this club should consist of no more than twenty per cent (20%) of its active membership in any one given classification.

(c) No man shall be eligible to membership in this club who holds membership (other than honorary) in any other Kiwanis club or service club of like character.

(d) An active member shall pay a membership fee and annual membership dues, and shaH be entitled to all the privileges of this club.

MEMBERSHIP AND CLASSIFICATION Classes of Membership

Active Membership

(b) Each active member shall personally devote sixtv oer cent (60%) of his occuoational time to the vocational activity under which he is classified unless he shall have retired

(ti) No man shall be elil!ible to membershio in this club who holds membership (other than honorary) in any other Kiwanis club or other service club of like character.

(f) Active membership shall automatically cease in case any active member shall permanently remove his vocational activity, or residence and community Interests ·trom the territorial limits of this club or shall change his vocational activity so as to ~ ineligible for active membership in any available classification. If he shall so change his vocational activity he• may be elected a reserve member, as hereinafter provided. If he shall so remove from the territorial limits of this club, he shall receive from the Secretary a certificate of withdrawal if in good standing.

(g) An active member shall pay a membership fee and annual membership dues, and shall be entitled to all privileges of this . club, but no membership fee shall be paid by an active member who within sixty (60) days has been an active member of this club under another classification.

Privileged Membership

Section 3. (a) A privileged member is a member of this club, who has been an active member in good standing of one or more · Kiwanis clubs for a number of years, not less than ten (10), and who has met such other conditions, as were prescribed in these bylaws, and who was elected a

privileged member prior to July 31, 1963.

(b) No member may be elected a privileged member after July 31, 1963.

(c) A privileged member shall pay annual membership dues and shall be entitled to

all privileges of this club., He shall be excused from conformity to the attendance rule for active and senior members.

(d) The Board of Directors shall review annually the list of privileged members and shall have authority, for such reasons as seem adequate, to terminate any member's privileged membership.

Senior Membership

Section 4. {a)

Any

active member of this club who shall have been an active member in good standing of one or more Kiwanis clubs for such number of years, not less than

ten (10), and who is unable to meet attendance requirements because of health, business, or other extenuating circumstances and who shall have met such other conditions as may be prescribed by these bylaws, may be elected a senior member upon making written application.

(b) A senior member shall meet the standards of attendance and participation as set forth by the board of directors. A senior member shall pay annual membership dues and shall be entitled to all privileges of this club.

(c) The Board of Directors shall review annually the list of senior members and shall have authority, for such reasons as seem adequate, to te';rminate any member's senior membership, or to reinstate any such member

transferring his vocational activity, or residence and community interests to the territorial limits of this club, and who. because his classification is filled, cannot become an active member of this club, may, upon presentation of his certificate of withdrawal, be elected a reserve member under the classification for the vo- cational activity to which he devotes sixty per cent (60%) of his occupational time as owner, partner, or executive as defined for active membership. In case a vacancy occurs in active member•

ship under the classification for the vocational activity in which said reserve member is engaged, his reserve membership shall automatically cease: but he may be elected to active membership.

(b) Any man who has been an active member of this club under a given classification, and who cannot continue his actlva membership because he has. changed his vocational activity to one for which no classification is open in active membetship, may be elected a reserve member, under the classification for his new vocational activity, provided he devotes sixty per cent (60%}

of his occupational time to said vocational activity as owner, partner or· executive, as defined for active membership. In case an opening occurs for active membership under the classification of the vocational activity in which said reserve member is · en•

gaged, his reserve membership shall automatically cease and said member shall be restored to active membership under said classification.

(c) The number of reserve members in this club shall be limited to one (1) for each classification, unless under unusual circumstances the privilege of two (2) reserve members in a classification be secured from the Board of Trustees of Kiwanis International. ·

(d) Reserve membership in this club shall automatically cease in case any reserve member shall retire or shall permanently re- move his vocational activity, or resiaence and community interests from the terntonal l1m1ts of this cluo or shall change his vo::a•

tional activ1ry so as to be ineligible tor reserve memoership under any ciass1tication. In such case he shall receive from the Secretary a certificate ot witharawal if in good stanaing.

Privileged Membership

Sec. 4. (a) A priviiegeo member is a member of this club, who has been an active member in good standing of one or more Kiwanis clubs for a number of years, not less than ten (10), and who has met such other conditions as were prescribed in these bylaws, and who was elected a privileged member prior to July 31, 1963.

(b) No member may be elected a privileged member after July 31, 1963.

(c) A privileged member shall pay annual membersbip dues and shall be entitled to all privileges of this club. He shall be excused from conformity to the attendance rule for active, senior, and reserve members.

(d) The Board of Directors shall review annually the list of privileged members and shall have authority, for such rea- sons as seem adetiuate, to tenninate any member's privileged membership.

Senior Membership

Set. 5. (a) Any active member of this club who shall have been an active member in · good standing of one or more Kiwanis clubs for such number of years, not less than ten (10), and who Is unable to meet attendance requirements because of health, business, or other extenuating circumstances and who shall have met such other conditions as may be prescribed by these bylaws, may be el~cted a senior member upon making written application.

(b) A senior member shall be required to attend at least twelve

(12) regular club meetings during any administraUve year. A senior member sh~II vay annl!1!! membership dues em! shall be entitled

to

all privileges of this club.

(c) The Board v: :li,actors shall revlew annually tile list of senior members and shall have authority, for such reasons as seem adequate, to .terminate any member's senior membership, or to reinstate any such member as an active member.

Honorary Membership

Section 5. (a) Any man who has performed some distinguished public service and who is not an active, privileged or senior member of this club, may be elected as an honorary member of this club for the period of one (1) year and thereafter may be re- elected from year to year.

(b) An honorary member shall pay neither membership fee nor annual membership dues, and shall be entitled to all privileges of the club except those of voting and holding office. He shall be a paid subscriber to The Kiwanis Magazine.
