C. Discussion

This section presented the discussion of the research finding of teaching writing by using peer feedback via Instagram method related to the theories. It can be seen that students' writing mediated peer feedback via Instagram can help students identify their mistakes in writing. This can be seen from the increase in student scores. From the preliminary study

data, the average score of students are 60 if the percentage is 45%.67 That proves the students' writing achievement is still low.

After the researcher applied this method, the average score of students in cycle one to be 76,1 . There were 30 students or almost 90% of students who scored above the passing grade, while the other 3 students were still under that criterion. The results from cycle 1 show that this research was successful. Then the researcher continued the second cycle with the aim of seeing the consistency of the success in the previous cycle.

In table 4.11 it shows that the second cycle was successful too and has increased from 76.1% to 78.8%. In the final result it can be said that implementation of peer feedback via Instagram method in could improve the students‟ in writing skill.This research was successful because the results of the writing test scores of students achieved the criteria of success.

The implementation of this peer feedback received a good response from students in the class. It turns out that this can help students identify their mistakes in writing. Peer feedback can be used for student errors in writing. Then, students revise and rewrite the results of the peer feedback they get. This method provides motivation and notes for students to make their writing better. This supported by Purwati and Mc Connel in cited

In research conducted by researchers in the implementation of writing recount text achievement using peer feedback uses media too. This media used aims to facilitate the research process. The media used in this research is Instagram. Moreover, this research was conducted in the still of the pandemic COVID19, the researchers felt that was very effective in the process of learning writing. This statement supported by Sirait, J.B Marlina that Instagram can be flexibly used in the peer feedback process carried out by students and can motivate them to write.69

Here students provide comments, notes and responses to other students. Then proceed with suggestions for their writing. These were done in the comments column on Instagram. He underlined the grammatical structure that was wrong and also coded it by rewriting what was wrong in the comments section of Instagram comment column. This helps students to identify the mistakes they made so that they can revise their writing. In addition, they also provided comments in Indonesian to help other students understand the meaning conveyed. Based on the purpose of the commentary is to assist students in writing a new sheet of draft according to the statement of Skwire and Wiener.70

In this study, researchers used peer feedback. When students make mistakes in their writing, other students will provide corrections. For example, a student wrote her comment “I think joins should be replaced joined”. Then, the students who received peer feedback and answered “I'll fix it the future”. Then make a note in Indonesian "simple past = was/were for nominal sentences and V2 for verbal sentences" that related with the feature language of recount text.71

This study also evaluates and assesses students' writing achievement at the high school level which focuses on vocabulary, organization (generic structure of recount text), grammar/ tenses (simple past tense) and mechanics. Students can write simple sentences correctly using the past tense in one paragraph. They also begin to be able to develop their ideas and express them in writing. This is following what was stated by Zemach that a paragraph is a collection of sentences about one topic.72

The students‟ writing achievement got improvement in some aspects. Those are grammar, vocabulary, and mechanic also content and organization. In addition, in accordance with Bachman's statement that organization is important as the ability to understand and form correct sentences, including the meaning of sentences and their inclusion in a

text.73 Based on this statement, it can be concluded that writing is one of the productive skills influencing written communication and need a good organization to produce meaningful sentences. Students were written in good sequence starting from orientation, followed by events and ending with reorientation. That their writing contents of the student's writing make it interesting for the reader.

Before applying the peer feedback strategy, the students wrote the wrong grammar. They wrote, “he is born in Jakarta”. Then, after being given peer feedback in the comments column, students can write the correct sentence like “he was born on Jakarta”. They can write recount paragraphs using the correct tense. As we know that grammar is important to form and construct correct sentences. That was supported by Chomsky in Richards who states that knowledge of grammar underlies our ability to produce and understand sentences in a language.74

They were also incorrect in writing vocabulary for example enjoyed, got, taken etc. Then, after peer feedback was given, they could write the vocabulary correctly. The researcher places more emphasis on grammar, vocabulary and mechanics because Richard stated that vocabulary is one of the clearest components of language and without

vocabulary nothing can be conveyed, this proves how important vocabulary learning is especially in writing.75

The students also got an increase in mechanics (capitalization).

Previously they often made mistakes in the first sentence, after the period, when writing the names of people, places and so on. Then, after being given peer feedback, they can write it correctly. Gouzerh opinion states that the first word of a sentence is always capitalized.76

However, teaching writing by using peer feedback as the method has advantages and disadvantages. Teaching writing using peer feedback via Instagram in class has been beneficial for students and researchers. The advantage of applying the peer feedback method in this study was that researchers can make active students express their ideas related to the topic in class. All students were confident to write their opinion on their classmate's paper including sufficient students. This method also allows students to learn about new vocabulary and care for each other by understanding together about topic or meaning of some words. Students can communicate ideas using the vocabulary they have and they also learn to write well from a few words. Again in this study, the benefit of using peer feedback was that students were able to recognize their own mistakes. Other students gave feedback on Instagram column comments, including direct notes, comments, and written responses, so they was able

to correct the mistakes themself. On the other hand, by pairing students enjoy class also can interact with each other and they are motivated to express what they think about topics. This is related to Batch statement that Instagram is interesting to be used as a tool online learning that not only creates exciting new ways for students to interact and share learning going through Instagram is like practicing writing captions then posting pictures to invite someone to write in comments.77

On the other hand, using peer feedback to teach writing has its drawbacks. Researcher have found that peer feedback can provide direct corrections that make students instantly realize their mistakes at the moment. They would have forgotten it at the next meeting if they hadn't opened the note they gave them at the last meeting. Related to this problem Tsui and Ng statement some students prefer teacher feedback to peer feedback.78 To overcome this disadvantage, researchers have found a solution. When doing the test, students can use their writing that has been given feedback from the teacher or researcher as a reference maybe once or twice but ,focus on peer feedback because that more important. Thus, they will remember and not repeat their mistakes again.

Based on the discussion above, the application of the peer feedback method through Instagram to teach writing was successful because of student learning outcomes writing test scores can reach the success

criteria. Peer feedback methods through Instagram can improve students' abilities about the organization, grammar, vocabulary and mechanic. That can happen because in the Instagram caption there was a topic that can make them learn more about recount text biographies. In addition, in the text, students as readers corrected the author's submissions including grammar, so their grammar was better than what was written before. The peer feedback method can also make students active in expressing their writing ideas and they can be confident to write without being shy and doubtful again.

conclusion is based on the result of the research findings presented the previous chapter. Then, the suggestions are given related to further implementation of using Peer Feedback via Instagram to further studies.
