college degrees full-time are eligible for Lilly Endowment Educational Awards,
administered by the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana. To qualify for these awards, students must submit an Indiana FAF annually by March 1 and must
demonstrate financial need. Students may be eligible for these awards for four years.
Child of Disabled Veteran
Awards Students who are children of veterans of World War I or II, the Korean conflict, or the Vietnam era who have suffered a service-connected disability or death are eligible for partial remission of fees. Applicants must have lived in the state of Indiana for at least one year prior to receiving a Child of Disabled Veteran Award.
A Certificate of Disability issued by the Veterans Administration must be on file at an Indiana University campus to establish applicant eligibility. The award may be made for a maximum of 124 credit hours. Eligible students may be full-time or part-time. Some campuses require the submission of an Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid each year during which the applicant wishes to receive the award.
Fee Courtesy for Dependent Children Awards Undergraduate students who are dependents of full-time faculty or staff members of Indiana University are eligible for the Fee Courtesy for Dependent Children Awards. These awards will pay up to one- half of the in-state fee rate for a maximum of 140 credit hours. A new application is required every year. Contact the campus financial aid office for further information.
Employee and Spouse Fee Courtesy Awards Full-time employees of Indiana University and/or their spouses are eligible for fee remission of a limited number of credit hours each semester. Consult the campus human resources management office for more details. An application must be filed at the campus financial aid office each year.
Perkins Loans (formerly National Direct Student Loans) Perkins Loans are low interest, long-term loans based on financial need available to both graduate and undergraduate students. Student may be awarded up to $9,000 for all undergraduate work or $18,000 for the combined graduate and undergraduate work. Interest at 5 percent (simple) begins accruing either six or nine months after graduation or when the student drops below half-time status. There are provisions for deferments and
cancellations. Contact the campus financial aid office for more information.
Nursing Student Loans Students must be accepted for enrollment at least half-time in a nursing program to be eligible for Nursing Student Loans. These loans are based on financial need. A maximum of $2,500 per year, up to a total of $10,000 for the degree, can be borrowed. Interest at 5 percent (simple) begins accruing nine months after graduation or when the student drops below half-time status. The two campuses offering Nursing Student Loans are IUPUI and IU at Kokomo.
Stafford Loans (formerly Guaranteed Student Loans) Stafford Loans are long- term, interest-free loans for students enrolled in a degree program at a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester. Loans are made by private lending institutions that
participate in the program. The amount of a loan is dependent upon demonstrated financial need. Students may borrow up to
$2,625 annually for the first two years and
$4,000 annually for the last two years of undergraduate study. The maximum loan for undergraduate study is $17,250. Graduate and professional students may borrow up to
$7,500 per year. The maximum Stafford Loan total for any one person is $54,750.
Repayment of the loan principal and interest (7, 8, or 9 percent depending upon when a student first borrowed this type of loan) begins six or nine months after graduation or dropping to below half-time course load. Pre- loan counseling and an exit interview are required to prevent loan default.
Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) PLUS loans are available to parents who want to borrow to help pay for their children's education, maximum of $4,000 per year, per child or up to $20,000 for each child. PLUS loans are made by private lending institutions and have variable interest rates which are not to exceed 12 percent. FAF filing is not required. Loan repayment begins withir. 60 days of receipt of the loan. Repayment of PLUS loan principal and interest can be deferred if the student continues to enroll full-time. The interest, however, will accumulate during the time of deferment.
Supplemental Loan for Students (SLS) Graduate, professional, and self.
supporting students enrolled in a program for at least 6 credit hours per semester are eligible for SLS loans. Although the SLS is not a need-based program, students must establish eligibility for a Pell Grant and/or a GSL prior to receiving this loan. An SLS loan has a variable interest rate, not to exceed 12 percent, and a loan maximum of $4,000 per
year, to a total of $20,000. Repayments of SLS loans may be deferred while students enroll in a course of study at least half-time.
College Work-Study Program (CWSP) The College Work-Study Program is a part-time employment program based on financial need that is available to both graduate and undergraduate students. Although the CWSP awards are made by the financial aid office, students must be employed to receive the money that will be paid as wages. Indiana University Student Employment Program The JU Student Employment Program is a referral service for students who wish to work part-time during the school year. Any student desiring part-time employment may apply. Contact the campus office that handles career and employment services for more information.
Short-Term and Emergency Loans Emergency loans of $100 are available to nursing students for 30 days with no interest. Short-term loan of greater amounts can also be made by the School of Nursing with minimal interest. Professional Nurses Traineeships Full-time graduate students in their last year of a nursing graduate program may receive Professional Nurses Traineeships. The traineeship awards cover the costs of tuition, course fees, course-related books, supplies, and equipment for the duration of the program, provided the student maintains a 3.00 GPA (master's) or a 3.50 GPA (doctoral).

Research Assistantships A limited number of graduate assistant and research assistant positions are available to graduate students.
