Throughout the year the four young men that represent FFA as Na- tional Vice Presidents field thousands of questions from students, ad- visors, businessmen and parents. We've asked these four members of this year's National Officer team, in office since November, to answer the one question that he would like to share with
allFFA members.
Ron
Wilson:"How
can I help getmy
chapter
members
involved?""Any
coach cantellyou
thatittakes an entireteam
effort to win. Involve-ment
ofyour entirechapter is thekey to our winningteam
ofFFA.
"
'What would you
like tosee your organization do?' Everymember
should ask— and
answer—
that question indi-vidually afterbeing
made
awareof the endless opportunities forachievementinFFA.
After finding an interest, seeingwhat
can be gainedand
learningwhat

members
are involved in the planning, then involvement in the ac- tivities shouldfollow. Positiverecogni- tion will help—

will find the personal benefits to be rich, natural, and

Leo
Anderson:"What
canI gainfrom
beinganFFA member?"
"In lookingat it not as aNational Officer, nora paststate officer, but as an
FFA member,
I seemany
specificchanges in
my
life as a result ofmy
participation in the
FFA. And
intalk- ing with other formerFFA members
during the year, I've found they too, have seen these changes in theirown
lives.
"The FFA
took a shy, quiet, young boy who
lacked a great deal in self- confidenceand
changedhim
toone who
believed in himself. I finally felt I couldhandlea job placed beforeme
because of the responsibility given
me by my
fellowFFA members. The
fact thatIwas
terrible atalmost everything and didn'thaveany
skills really didn't matter,becausetheFFA was
takingme
asthepersonI
was and
changingme
to the bestperson Icouldever be. Itnot only increasedmy
self-confidence but helpedme
togain theabilityto present 38myself in front of a groupto express clearly
my
thoughtsand
ideas. Ittakes yourweak
leadership skillsand
begins to sharpen them. But ifyou
think theFFA
will helpyou by
your just sitting around, you're wrong. The
onlyway
that
you
canseeachangeistobecome
involved, participate.One
thing is for sure, you'llneverknow what

"Why
shouldIbecome
involvedintheFFA?"
"I
remember
years agowhen my
mother would
tellme
toeateverythingon my
plate.The
conversationwould
go something like this: 'Elton, finish eating.' 'Why?' 'Because.' 'Because why?' 'Becauseit isgood
for you!'"It did not
seem
like a verygood
argument. Itwas
hopeless formother
todescribe thingslikevitamins
and
min- erals. Tellingme
about those thingswould
be like tellingColumbus
about landingon
Mars."Not many
yearsagoIremember my FFA

question:'Why?'His answer: 'Becauseitwillbe
good
for you.'"Maybe
those weren't the exactwords we
exchanged, but theyareclose.Afterseveral science courses Ilearned thevalueofvitaminsinabalanceddiet.
