b. Implementation of the Acting

The implementation of learning process in cycle 1 was done three meetings started from Wednesday, January 26th to Wednesday, February 1st, 2022. For the cycle 1 was including learning material, and test. First the researcher and the observer entered to the English class. The class was started by praying together and the researcher introduce herself to the students. And then the researcher gave information to students about the activities to be implemented.

In the first meeting and the second meeting from cycle 1 was learning materials. It is was done on Wednesday and Thursday, January 26th and 27th 2022. In this meeting the teacher gave explanation about the material of recount text for understanding to students. The teacher explained in detail of recount text ranging from the meaning of recount text, the purpose of recount text, generic structure of recount text, characteristics of recount text and the examples of recount text. It based on lesson plan (RPP).

After explained the detail information about recount text, the teacher gave the students opportunity to asked questions according each students‟ understanding. And then the teacher explained again based the questions so that the students can understand the material deeply. Next, to find out the extent to which students‟ understanding of the recount text material, the teacher asked the students to rewrite the teacher explanation about 30 minutes and submitted. Last step in the

application of learning materials was giving homework to students.

The teacher asked the students to analysis the vocabulary was showing verb 2 on the example from recount text that explained the teacher.

Last meeting after implementation of learning materials in cycle 1 was test. It is was done on Wednesday, February 2nd 2022. The teacher asked the students to write their experiences whatever they had done last week. The teacher shared answer sheets to students and gave the duration about 60 minutes as usual as the school agenda. The purpose of this test was measuring the results of previous learning, it was that prepared previously by the teacher on lesson plan. This test will provide results of that had done by the students. Whether the result of this study had been successful and improve the result of preliminary before. The situation in class could be seen from:

Teacher : “Assalamualaikum Wr. Wb. Good morning class!”

Students : “Waalaikumsalam Wr. Wb. Good morning Miss”

Teacher : “How are you today?”

Students : “I am fine, thank you. How about you?”

Teacher : “I am very well too, thank you. Before we start our lesson today, let‟s pray together.”

Students : “Bismillahirrohmaanirrohiim.”

Teacher : “Well class, are you ready to begin our lesson?”

Students : “Ready Miss!”

Teacher : “Ok students, in this meeting we will do a test. The purpose of this test is to find how much your understanding and your skill in writing. Can you get it students?”

Students : “No, miss.”

Teacher : “Nah jadi saya akan memberikan kalian sebuah tes menulis yang mana tes ini bertujuan untuk mengukur sejauh mana kemampuan kalian dalam menulis. Saya akan menyuruh kalian menulis pengalaman pribadi kalian pada hari minggu kemaren, maksudnya apa yang kalian lakukan kemaren kalian tulis kejadian itu baik senang maupun sedih. Apakah kalian faham anak-anak?”

Students : “Iya Miss faham.”

Teacher : “So class I hope you are not nervous. Jadi jangan gerogi ya, santai saja. Make it easy and do your best, Ok. Please one of you can help me to share this answer sheet?”

Students : “Ok Miss I can it.

Teacher : “Thank you. Students I give you 45 minutes to finish the task. You can open your dictionary or you can ask me if you have difficulty to translate into English. Atau bias juga Tanya langsung ke saya misalnya Bahasa inggris nya ini apa bu, gitu. Well you may start from now.”

Students : “Yes Miss.”

Teacher : “Miss I want to ask, apa bahasa inggrisnya menjemput saya?”

Students : “Menjemput saya in English is pick me up.”

Teacher : “Ok Miss, Thank you.”

Students : “Miss how about bersantai?”

Teacher : “Bersantai itu Relax.

Students : “Thank you Miss.

Teacher : “Pleasure.”

Students : “Miss kan ini kejadian yang sudah terjadi berarti menggunakan verb ke 2 ya?”

Teacher : “Ok good question. That‟s right students. You can use verb 2 because it is your experiences in the past. Jadi, iya kamu harus menggunakan verb ke 2 yaitu menggunakan tenses simple past tense, karena kejadiannya telah terjadi.“

Students : “Yes Miss, thank you.”

(After 45 minutes was up)

Teacher : “Well class, the time is up, you may submitted your answer sheet to me now. And don‟t forget your compete name and identity.”

Students : “Ok Miss.”

Kriiiiing…….kriiiiiing…….kriiiing…….. (bel sekolah berbunyi)

Teacher : “Well class, because the time is up. I would like to close our lesson today. I apologize if I have mistakes. Thank you

and see on the next meeting. So let‟s pray Kaffaratul Majlis. Wassalamualaikum warrahmatullahi wabarokatuh.

Students : “Wa‟alaikumsalam warrahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

c. Observing

During the learning process, the teacher and observer was observing all activities that occur in the classroom. They also observed and monitor all students‟ attitudes, their responses, and attention to learning activities. However, the result of this study needs to be further improved. Although there were students who have good writing skill but still need guidance to improve. There were even some students who show difficulties in writing recount text especially diary writing, most of them were lack vocabulary. Other weaknesses were the grammar and writing structure.

d. Reflection

Based on the results of data and observations in the first cycle of the learning process, the results of the reflection are obtained as follows:

1) Some students have difficulty in writing skills and lack of vocabulary mastery. Therefore they need more intensive guidance.

This condition is normal but the teacher has a desire to improve students‟ abilities and vocabulary mastery by providing motivation and support to all students.

2) The use of diary writing is expected to help students understand improving their writing abilities and it can build students‟ writing habit. Because basically everyone likes to share their experiences.

The teacher continued to use same equipment to help students understanding more about recount in learning activities. So, the result of the next cycle will increase as expected by the teacher.

Next, to know if there is an improvement in writing, the teacher analyzes the result. The result is calculated from the result of the test cycle 1. The calculation as follow:

a. Mean of the test cycle 1

b. Percentage of the class that passed the minimum mastery criterion (KKM) of the test of cycle 1

c. The result of students‟ improvement percentage

The data showed that the mean of test of cycle 1 was 68,4. From the result in the cycle 1, students‟ scores increased 66.6% and there was a considerable influence in cycle 1. The result achieved the criteria of success was 60% who students get KKM score is 70.0. It means that it is

less than the criteria of success set by the researcher, which is 75%.

Therefore, the researcher held cycle 2.

2. Cycle 2

The learning process in cycle 2 is a revision of the results from previous cycle. Same with the cycle 1 that cycle 2 consist of planning, implementing of the acting, observing, and reflecting.

a. Planning

After doing all of the stages cycle 1, it can be seen that writing a diary had a positive effect on students‟ writing abilities. Although certain student scores did not meet the success criteria in cycle 1.

Then, there was an improvement to this plan which was important.

There is a lack of understanding of the use of tenses in students when writing, so researcher made improvements that are focused on increasing the use of tenses when students write. This means that there is not significant change between the plans from cycle 1 and cycle 2.

b. Implementation of Acting

In this section the researcher uses the same device in cycle 1 but, because it focuses more on the use of tenses, the researcher adds material about the simple past tense. An explanation of the material as follow:

Teacher : “Assalamualaikum Wr. Wb. Good morning class!”

Students : “Waalaikumsalam Wr. Wb. Good morning Miss”

Teacher : “How are you today?”

Students : “I am fine, thank you. How about you Mis?”

Teacher : “I am very well too, thank you. Before we start our lesson today, let‟s pray together.”

Students : “Bismillahirrohmaanirrohiim.”

Teacher : “Who is absen today?”

Students : “Nobody, Miss!”

Teacher : “Good! Well class apakah kalian masih ingat tentang materi minggu kemaren kita membahas apa? Raise your hand, please!”

Students : “Of course Miss, minggu kemaren kita membahas tentang text recount.”

Teacher : “Iya benar, so what is recount text?”

Students : “Recount text is tells about something happened in the past”

Students : “Text yang menceritakan suatu kejadian di masa lampau, Miss.”

Teacher ; ”Nice students, jadi sama halnya kita menulis diary, kalian boleh menulis suatu kejadian senang maupun susah yang akan di ceritakan atau istilahnya kalian curhat tentang kejadian itu dimana, kapan, dengan siapa, dan bagaimana peritiwa tersebut terjadi. So, ketika kalian menulis, ungkapkan saja semua yang ada in your brain, dengan

demikian kalian akan dengan mudah menulis karena tidak ada paksaan sedikit pun. Sampai sini paham students?”

Students : “Yes Miss, get it.”

Teacher : “So, how about the generic structure of recount text apa saja?”

Students : “Ada 3 Miss. There are orientation, event, and reorientation.”

Teacher : “Good job class. Nah, ketika menulis recount text itu kan suatu kejadian yang sudah terjadi, so you must use verb ke berapa?”

Students : “Verb ke 2 Miss, because terjadi di masa lampau.”

Teacher : “Benar students, but in your task yesterday, masih banyak yang tidak menggunakan verb 2. Apa kalian masih belum paham tentang penggunaan verb 2?”

Students : “Yes, Miss. Kita masih bingung bagaimana merubah verb 1 ke verb 2.”

Teacher : “Well students, sebenarnya kalian langsung saja hanya merubah verb nya itu sambal melihat kamus. Di kamus sudah lengkap terdapat verb 1, verb 2, verb 3, beserta artinya juga”

Students : “Tapi Miss saya kesulitan bagaimana meletakkan verb nya itu”

Teacher : “Ok class jika seperti itu, kita coba mengingat kembali materi tentang simple past tense, ada yang masih ingat?”

Students : “Masih Miss, simple past tense itu penggunaan tenses di masa lampau”

Teacher : “That‟s right, apabila kita menulis suatu kejadian yang telah terjadi maka kita menggunakan tense simple past tense. Yang mana memiliki rumus yaitu Subject + Verb 2 + Object. Nah dari sini sudah jelas bahwa setelah subject harus verb 2 baru di ikuti kata selanjutnya. Untuk kata keterangan waktunya harus menggunakan kata keterangan di masa lampau, seperti yesterday, two days ago, last week, etc. Contoh nya seperti ini, saya telah membeli buku baru di 53ook kemarin sore. (sambil mecatat di papan tulis) saya bahasa inggrisnya I, kalua membeli?”

Students : “Buy”

Teacher : “Ok students in this formula harus menggunakan verb 2, so bentuk ke 2 dari buy is bought, kalian bias melihatnya di kamus”

Students : “Oiya Miss ini saya lihat di kamus benar bought”

Teacher : “Nah iya jadi gitu cara melihat verb ke 2, do you get it students?”

Students : “Yes Miss.”

Teacher : “Well kita lanjut. Bahasa inggrisnya buku baru di 54ook kemarin sore?”

Students : “New book in the bookstore yesterday afternoon”

Teacher : “Nice students, you are so diligent. Dari sini apakah sudah faham penggunaan verb 2 itu bagaimana dan ketika apa?”

Students : “Faham Miss, a good explanation!”

Teacher : “Thank you student. Baik kalua sudah faham saya tutup pertemuan pada pagi hari ini, semoga ilmunya bermanfaat, dan saya mohon maaf apabila terdapat kesalahan, let‟s pray together students. Wassalamualaikum Wr. Wb. See you students”

Students : “Waalaikum salam Wr Wb. See you too Miss.”

The first implementation of cycle 2 is learning material. This activity was conducted on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. In this meeting the teacher repeated the material in the previous cycle, and focused on discussing the grammar. When the teacher explains in front of the class, the students listen and pay attention. The teacher also explains how to write a diary as well as the material for writing a diary based on a lesson plan (RPP) that has been made.

After explained the detail information about recount text, the teacher gave the students opportunity to asked questions according each students‟ understanding. And then the teacher explained again based the questions so that the students can understand the material deeply. And to

know their understanding, the teacher gave a home work. Then the teacher provided some picture and ask the students to makes stories from the picture based on the recount text material. The teacher shared answer sheets to students. It could be doing at home.

The last meeting after the implementation of the learning materials in cycle 2 was a test. This was done on Thursday, February 10, 2022. The teacher asked the students to write down whatever they had done last week, both happy and sad. The teacher shared the answer sheets to students and gives a duration of about 60 minutes as usual according to the school agenda. This test aims to measure the results of previous learning, namely those that have been prepared previously by the teacher in the lesson plan. This test will give the results that have been done by students.

And find out whether the results of this study have been successful and improve the results in the previous cycle.

c. Observing

At this stage, the students seemed to more understand about the recount text that they applied by writing a diary, and they experienced an increase in their writing skills. Students become more active and confident to write diaries. They feel happy in writing a story, they are freer to write what they want to express, so that students‟ writing ability is improve. From the results of this cycle, it shows that there were improvement compared to the previous cycle. So it means students are more skilled in writing.

d. Reflecting

After the researcher was analyzing the results of cycle 2, the researcher concluded that writing a diary can improve students‟ writing ability. In addition, the students‟ skills improve and the students are more active in storytelling into writing.

Based on the results of data analysis and observations in cycle 2, it is known that the use of diary can stimulate students‟ writing ability. The table is the score of students‟ assessment in cycle 2 as follow:

The data showed that the mean of test of cycle 2 was 72,2. From the result in the cycle 2, students‟ scores increased 26,6% and the result achieved the criteria of success was 76% % who students get KKM score

is 70.0. It means that it exceeded the criteria of success that the researcher determined, which is 75%.
