B. Suggestion

From the conclusion above, the researcher would like to offer some suggestion especially for English teacher to practice this technique and improve students‟ reading comprehension and follow the procedure well and should manage the time in using this technique.

The students should expand their vocabulary, so it would be easy to comprehending narrative story by using story mapping technique and during learning process the students should focus and pay attention. For further research who have the same problem and interested in conducting research in other fields such as speaking and writing.

had passed away when he was a baby. Malin Kundang had to live hard with his mother.

Malin Kundang was a healthy, diligent, and strong boy. He usually went to sea to catch fish. After getting fish he would bring it to his mother, or sold the caught fish in the town.

One day, when Malin Kundang was sailing, he saw a merchant’s ship which was being raided by a small band of pirates. He helped the merchant. With his brave and power, Malin Kundang defeated the pirates.

The merchant was so happy and thanked to him. In return the merchant asked Malin Kundang to sail with him. To get a better life, Malin Kundang agreed. He left his mother alone.

Many years later, Malin Kundang became wealthy. He had a huge ship and was helped by many ship crews loading trading goods. Perfectly he had a beautiful wife too. When he was sailing his trading journey, his ship landed on a beach near a small village. The villagers recognized him. The news ran fast in the town; “Malin Kundang has become rich and now he is here”.

An old woman ran to the beach to meet the new rich merchant. She was Malin Kundang’s mother. She wanted to hug him, released her sadness of being lonely after so long time. Unfortunately, when the mother came, Malin Kundang who was in front of his well dressed wife and his ship crews denied meeting that old lonely woman. For three times her mother begged Malin Kundang and for three times he yelled at her. At last Malin Kundang said to her “Enough, old woman! I have never had a mother like you, a dirty and ugly woman!” After that he ordered his crews to set sail. He would leave the old mother again but in that time she was full of both sadness and angriness.

Finally, enraged, she cursed Malin Kundang that he would turn into a stone if he didn’t apologize. Malin Kundang just laughed and really set sail.

In the quiet sea, suddenly a thunderstorm came. His huge ship was wrecked and it was too late for Malin Kundang to apologize. He was thrown by the wave out of his ship. He fell on a small island. It was really too late for him to avoid his curse. Suddenly, he turned into a stone.

they are often at loggerheads and fighting for foods. Because, they same strong, agile, ferocious, and equally clever, the fight is also continue to because no one can win and nobody can lose.

Furthermore, both of animals feel bored and tired if they have to fight. Aware of it both of them agree to hold the agreement on the division of the area power. "Hi crocodile actually I am tired of fighting with you" Said the shark Sura."Hmm, me too, Sura. Then, what should we do to fight this we can stop?" asked the crocodile. To prevent more fighting between us, it would be nice if we divide this area into 2 areas of power. I was in water and can only looking for prey in the water, you are in the mainland and so your prey also must exist on the mainland. Then, as a limit, we specify first that land can be achieved the sea water at low tide! "okay, I agree with your idea , Sura" said the crocodile with a nod.

With the absence of such agreement, for a few moments shark Sura and crocodile never fight again. Both of them agreed to respect his territory respectively.however, after time takes so long, the fish are become the prey of sharks Sura began to run out on the ocean. A portion of the fish remaining precisely migrate towards the estuary of the river because of the fish of being devoured by the shark Sura. Aware of it, the shark Sura was forced with a furtive start looking for their prey in the estuary of the river, so as not to get caught by the crocodile. However, without realizing it the crocodile turned out to know the behavior of the shark Sura and directly attacked him.

"Sura, why did you break the agreement that we have agreed on? why do you dare to come in my territory

?” asked the crocodile. "Eits.. I am breaking the agreement? is not this river watery? And because there is water, so the river is also included in my territory, is not it?" said of Sura. "what do you mean Sura? Is not the river it is on land, being the area of your power there in the sea, it is mean the river that include of my territory!" replied the crocodile insistent. "ohhh can not. Did not I never once said that the water was just on the sea? is not it also the water of the river" replied the shark Sura. "hmmm... apparently accidentally you find fault with me, Sura?" said of crocodile. "no!! I just give the reason. I have been strong enough and I was on the right side!! Said of Sura. "you are really my Sura. I am not as stupid as you think!"

replied the crocodile with the angry. "I do not care you are smart or stupid, but the rivers and the sea is in my territory!" Sura does not want to lose.

A fight between Sura and Baya was ended with fights are fierce. Fights become very fun and awesome.

Because, both of them feel equally not wrong. They bite each other, crashing, hitting, and pounce. Then, the water of the river surrounding becomes red because of the blood out of the wound the second beast.

The fight with furiously. Because they was already severely injured, both of them stopped fighting. Shark of Sura relented and finally returned to the sea. The crocodile holding the pain also feel satisfied because it has been able to maintain his territory. Finally, at the time known that both of animals is apparently dead because of severe injuries of the former fights. And for this memory, the society around the states give the name Surabaya in the area around the fights between Sura and Crocodile.

Title : Malin kundang

The class started at 08.00 a.m. the researcher come together to the class with the English teacher. In the class, the English teacher introduced the researcher to the students, she said that she would observe the students for two meetings.

The English teacher started the class by saying “Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, good morning students” and responded by all students “Waalaikumsalam warahmatulaahi wabaraktuh, good morning mam”. Many of them responded loudly with enthusiasm then she checked the students’ attendance list. After that, the teacher began the lesson with brainstorming to motivate the students in learning English.

Then the teacher asked the students about what they have done in the last meeting, almost all the students remembered about the material that had been discussed in the last meeting but some of students had forgotten the material. After that the teacher ask the students “do you know the legend of Malin Kundang?”. The students said “yes I know mam” “yes of course mam”. “It’s very popular story. Right?” said the teacher. The students look enthusiastic and excited, but there are some of them choose to be silent.

The teacher said “the legend of Malin kundang is an example of narrative text” then she told the students that they were going to learn more about narrative text. The teacher told the students that she would present the information about narrative text that they would learn and the students were asked to listen her carefully to get brief information from the text before they started reading. The teacher give time to student read about narrative text in their book. After the teacher was sure the students had finished reading, she ask the students “What is narrative text?”

and the students answered “it’s imaginative text” “a type of text that tells about a series of chronologically events and connected”. “entertain mam“ yes of course the purpose of narrative text to entertain the reader or present a story” said the teacher. Then the teacher explained more about the generic structure and language features of narrative text. The teacher read some sentences of the text and explained the text. She asked the students to examine of generic structure. The explanation was clear, some of students looked bored, it was shown by some of the students who did not pay attention to the teacher but many of them still focused about the teacher explanation.
