132 ENTOMOLOGICAL SOCIETY A NEW SPECIES OF ROPTRONIA.
By WILLIAM H. ASHMEAD.
The following new
species in the raregenus Roptronia
Prov.was taken by
Prof.H. Garman,
of the StateCollege
ofKen
tucky, at
Lexington, Ky., and
afterwhom
I take pleasure innaming
the species.The
genus, as originally described, was placed by Abbe Pro- vancher
in thefamily Braconidce, but was subsequently removed by him
tothesubfamily Helorince
in theProctotrypidcz. From
the
imperfect
figure of thevenation given by Provancher, and
before Ihad
seen aspecimen
forexamination,
Iwas
inclined todoubt
the correctness of this lastview
ofthe learnedAbbess, and placed
thegenus
doubtfullyamong
the aberrantgroup Pachy lommatince
in the Braconidae.Since
that time,however,
Ihave
seen three representatives of thegenus, and
a carefulstudy
of thesespecimens convinces me
thatProvancher was
correct inremoving
thegenus
tothe Helorinae.The venation
issomewhat
similarto the
genus Monomachus Westw., and seems
to afford aconnecting
linkbetween
thisgenus and
thegenus Proctotrypes
Latr.Monomachus should
alsobe placed with
the Helorinae.Roptronia garmani, n. sp.
