A NEW SPECIES OF CALLICHROMA FROM TEXAS.

Callichroma schwarzin. sp.

Male: Rather dull in lustre and of a greenish-blue color throughout above, same beneath but more shining; abdomen rufo-ferruginous; an- tennae, all of the femora, tibiae and tarsi black. Prothorax as in ('./<//- caturn Lee., withfront deeplyconstricted, two elevated spaces just back of the constriction and one long transverse elevated ridge on the poslc-

rior area; with unequally transverse rugse; densely and finely punctate, with short inconspicuous black hairs. Prosternum concave and trans- versely plicate. Antennae twice the length ofthebody. Elytrastrongly taperingfrom baseto apex,tipsseparatelyrounded,sides slightlyarcuate;

clothedwithshortinconspicuousashy grey pubescence; denselyandfinely punctate exceptsmall space at baseclose tothesuture withcoarserpunc- tures. Under surface covered with ashy grey pubescence. Scutellum triangular, longerthanwide,grooved

Female: Differs from the male inbeing smaller, antenna; not reaching thetips oftheelytra, prothoraxsimilar tothat of C. splendidumLee.,not transversely rugose at center but densely finely punctured, and slightly rugosetowardthesides. Elytra withtwoinconspicuoustransversebands

ofavioletshade, onejust in frontand theotherjustbackof the middle.

Posteriorfemoraslightlyarcuate. Posteriortibieenearly straight. Length 28

four specimens,

two

females

and two

males, received

from D. K. McMillan

with the following note, "Col- lected

May

22, 1909,

on

the blossomsof Cissus incisa,rather

com- mon and

a

number

of

mating

pairs

were

crawling

among

the

foliage."

This species is allied to C. plicatum Lee.

but

is distinguished

from

that

and

the other species

found

in the

United

States

by

having dull greenish-blue elytra

and

all of the

femora

black.

for E. A. Schwarz.
