The research aims to find out the linguistics factors affecting students speaking skill at the first semester in English Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar. This research limited to linguistics factors focus on to phonetics factors. This research was conducted in descriptive qualitative method. To collect the data from the students, the researcher used document analysis. The sample was selected by using purposive sampling because the research took one class in the first semester students of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. The sample in this research was 8 students.
The researcher found that there are phonetics factors that can affect students speaking skill. Based on the data analysis, the researcher found incorrect intonation, incorrect stress, incorrect vowel, and incorrect consonant. Incorrect intonation, students more likely to pronounce sentences in a flat tone but the sentences should be said in a rise or fall tone. Incorrect stress, students are more likely to pronounce words consisting of 3 syllables with no stress. Incorrect vowel, the researcher found that [æ] vowel sound changed into [e] vowel sound, [ə] vowel sound changed into [i] vowel sound, [o] and [a] vowel sound, [ɔ:] vowel sound changed into [a] vowel sound, [ʌ] vowel sound changed into [u] vowel sound. Incorrect consonant, The researcher found that [ʃ] consonant sound changed into [c] consonant sound, [ð] consonant sound changed into [d] and [t]
consonant sound, [ʒ] consonant sound changed into [e] consonant sound, [ʤ]
consonant sound changed into [e] consonant sound.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui linguistics faktor apa yang mempengaruhi speaking siswa semester 1 di Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar. Penelitian ini membahas tentang faktor linguistics yang focus pada faktor phonetics. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam metode qualitatif descriptif.
Untuk mengumpulkan data dari siswa, peneliti menggunakan analisis dokumen.
Sampel dipilih dengan menggunakan total sampling karena peneliti mengambil 1 kelas di Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar. Sampel pada penelitian ini ada 8 orang.
Peneliti menemukan bahwa ada beberapa faktor phonetics. yang dapat mempengaruhi speaking siswa. Berdasarkan dari data analisis, peneliti menemukan kesalahan pada intonasi, kesalahan stresss, kesalahan vowel, and kesalahan consonant. Kesalahan pada intonasi, siswa lebih sering mengucapkan suatu kalimat dengan nada data tetapi kalimat tersebut seharusnya di ucapkan dengan nada tinggi atau nada rendah. Kesalahn pada stress, siswa lebih suka mengucapkan kalimat dengan 3 syllables tanpa stress. Kesalahan pada vowel, peneliti menemukan bahwa [æ] vowel sound diganti menjadi [e] vowel sound, [ə]
vowel sound diganti menjadi [i] vowel sound, [o] and [a] vowel sound, [ɔ:] vowel sound diganti menjadi [a] vowel sound, [ʌ] vowel sound diganti menjadi [u]
vowel sound. Kesalahan pada consonant, peneliti menemukan bahwa [ʃ]
consonant sound diganti menjadi [c] consonant sound, [ð] consonant sound diganti menjadi [d] and [t] consonant sound, [ʒ] consonant sound diganti menjadi [e] consonant sound, [ʤ] consonant sound diganti menjadi [e] consonant sound.
