Allen Term Skiing in France

Science in Chamonix is a short-term study abroad class looking at science in an Alpine environment.

Chamonix, France is home to Mt. Blanc, the tallest mountain in Western Europe, and the site of the very first winter Olympics in 1928.

We will use snowboarding (or skiing) to illustrate the principles of physics, using our bodies as the objects moving through trajectories, undergoing acceleration or experiencing forces. We will examine glaciers up close, and the environmental issues associated with glaciers. We will look at the physical and safety aspects of avalanches.
