Students are employed by the Public Safety Bureau on a part-time basis and take on the position of Public Safety Assistants. The Chief of Public Safety is ultimately responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the student security operation. All members of the University community are encouraged to report criminal incidents, emergencies and suspicious activity.

The Alfred University Office of Public Safety encourages members of the AU community to promptly and accurately report crimes to the AU Office of Public Safety or the appropriate law enforcement agency. Although we encourage reporting of campus criminal activity directly to the Alfred University Office of Public Safety in some cases by campus members. Members of the university community can report criminal acts to the Counseling Service professionals.

Alfred University Office of Residence Life actively participates in the education and support of the residential community. This notice will be sent to the parent or guardian's address.

Alcohol is the number one health risk for college drinkers and non-drinkers who are often affected by the behavior of intoxicated individuals. It is essential to remain in control whenever in a situation where alcohol is used. Open Containers - It is unlawful to possess an open container, resealed or partially open bottle, can, container or similar article containing an alcoholic beverage in a public place within the Village of Alfred.

Selling alcohol without a license - Selling alcohol without a license (ie charging entry to a party where alcohol is being distributed) is an offence. The criminal justice process is separate from the Alfred University STUDENT CONDUCT process and both can occur simultaneously. When taken by other routes (eg snorted, injected): increased risk of depressed breathing, leading to coma or death.

Masks the depressant effect of alcohol, increases the risk of alcohol overdose; may increase blood pressure; is shaking. Alfred University contracts with the Village of Alfred Police Department to provide law enforcement on campus when needed. Although AU Public Safety Officers are certified police officers, the University & Village agree that all law enforcement procedures (arrests) are conducted by Village officers.

The Village Police also provide training and work in coordination with the Alfred University Office of Public Safety and officials as needed. Members of the university community are encouraged to file reports with the Office of Public Safety as well as the Alfred Police Department. The Alfred Community Coalition is comprised of members from Alfred University, Alfred State College, the Village and the Town of Alfred who are dedicated to addressing issues that arise regarding students living in the Alfred community.

The coalition is also committed to promoting responsible student decision-making about their rights and responsibilities as good neighbors and citizens in the Village and City of Alfred.

RADIO STATIONS TO RECEIVE CLOSING NOTIFICATIONS

You will need the name of the person you are searching for and one of the following: a correct address, a full date of birth, a driver's license number or a social security number. The local law enforcement agency where the offender currently resides may, if desired, release community notification information about sex offenders residing in the community to "vulnerable population entities related to the nature of the offense." Excerpted from the Implementing Regulations of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (originally the Campus Security Act) originally published in the Federal Register on April 29, 1994 (Vol. 59, No. 82) and November 1, 1999 (Vol. 64, No. 210).

The definitions of violent and non-coercive sex offenses are excerpted from the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Handbook. For reporting purposes, this definition includes: unlawful entry for the purpose of committing a theft or felony; breaking and entering with intent to commit a theft; burglary; safe crack;. and all attempts to commit any of the foregoing. Individuals or groups who have been harassed, or are victims of sexual misconduct as defined above, have recourse through the grievance procedures of Alfred University established by this Policy.

All parties to the process will be notified in writing if it becomes necessary during the process to extend the time frame to allow for a fair and complete investigation and resolution of the issues. The Board for Sexual Harassment and Sexual Misconduct (hereinafter referred to as "the Board") stands ready to respond to complaints in various ways. A member of the Alfred community, while encouraged to speak with Counseling Services first, may speak with any member of the Board or the Title IX Coordinator about harassment or sexual misconduct.

Complainants may, if they wish, have a friend or counselor accompany them when they discuss the problem with the Title IX coordinator or board member. We will discuss information about the options available under this policy to address allegations of sexual harassment or abuse and their possible outcomes. A faculty member or administrator must report to the Title IX Coordinator any time a student or employee provides information about a possible case of sexual harassment or sexual abuse and must refer the person to the Title IX Coordinator for further action.

In the event of harassment, a complainant may request a referral to a campus mediator (eg, a member of the counseling center staff, an RD or DOS) who will attempt to facilitate the accused party's understanding of the nature of the complaint , clear up any misunderstanding, and resolve the complaint.

Alfred University’s 2013-2014 Student Life Policies & Procedures

The Provost, in consultation with the Title IX Coordinator, will respond to complaints against faculty members. The Human Resources Generalist, in consultation with the Title IX Coordinator, will respond to complaints filed against a member of the staff or administration. The Title IX Coordinator will annually appoint a three-person hearing committee, composed of members of the Board of Directors, to conduct Board hearings.

The Committee Chair will be a non-voting member of the Hearing Committee and shall preside over the hearing. At the conclusion of the investigation, the investigative team will issue a written report of the evidence and its findings to the Title IX Coordinator. The Title IX Coordinator will provide the complainant and defendant with a copy of the written report, including findings.

In all reports of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, both the complainant and the accused will be notified in writing of the sanction decision. Both sides will have access to all written witness statements that were part of the hearing. The right to be treated with dignity and respect by the hearing committee and all persons involved in the investigative process;

For complaints that have been processed before the Hearing Committee, the accused or the complainant may appeal the Hearing Committee's decision.

HOW CITE STUDENTS CAN HAVE A SAFE SEMESTER

The Downstate CITE program is not considered a branch for purposes of annual reporting under the federal Clery Act. Any crime statistics will be found in the Alfred University campus annual Right-to-Know report within the non-campus category. The report is prepared by the Office of the Dean of Students and can be accessed at Alfred University's web address.

If your door is closed and you suspect a fire is outside, use any material available to seal any cracks or openings to prevent smoke from entering the room. ABC dry chemical can be used for any of the above; most fire extinguishers on campus are of the ABC type. Ann's house is located on the south side of campus, overlooking Alfred University and the town of Alfred.

Located closest to Ade Dining Hall, BARRESI is a designated first-year student residence with two floors for men and one floor for women. BARTLETT is located on the north side of campus; Bartlett accommodates 88 upperclassmen in mostly single rooms. The architecture of the building includes extremely high ceilings, recently renovated bathrooms, beautiful wooden floors throughout the building and exposed wooden beams.

It is located on the south side of campus near Brick Hall and across from Herrick Memorial Library. OPENHYM is located at the southern end of campus, it is our largest hall of residence, accommodating 150 students (two women's floors, one men's floor). Raised from the campus, the Reimer offers a view of the campus and is close to the Ade dining hall.

TEFFT is adjacent to Reimer Hallen, and also has three floors with new and returning residents, housing in total. Located atop Pine Hill, Joel's House offers a tranquil environment close to hiking trails, bike trails, and the Stull Observatory. There is a fully equipped kitchen on the ground floor with a laundry room available to residents of Joel's House.

The Ford Street Apartments, located on the south side of campus, are two- or three-bedroom units that house four or six students.
