LOVELAND, CO – Three neon glass artists with ties to Alfred University have work included in s, an international exhibition of work by female-identifying artists bending their own neon.
The exhibition in Loveland, CO, a suburb of Denver, opened Jan. 23 at the Loveland Museum/Gallery and will remain on view through April 12, 2020.
is a collective/traveling exhibition featuring some of the most renowned female-identifying neon artists from around the globe, practicing in a medium that has been traditionally male dominated. Alfred University is well represented in the exhibition in Colorado. Sarah Blood, assistant professor of glass in Alfred University’s School of Art and Design; Carissa Grace Dopman, a senior glass science engineering major at Alfred University; and Lily Reeves, a 2015 Alfred University graduate (B.F.A.), have work exhibited in She Bends.
Dopman and Reeves are former students of Blood’s in Alfred University’s School of Art and Design, which is one a very small number of schools in the world that has a neon studio. Dopman who exhibited at the Language of Light neon art exhibition last summer in New York City. She demonstrated neon bending on the opening day of the She Bends exhibition. Reeves is a neon artist based in Birmingham, AL, where she runs an art and design studio full time.

“We are pushing the boundaries of our medium beyond the confines of commercial signage. was started out
of a need for support among womxn benders. We foster an ethos of community over competition and believe it is our responsibility to move this craft forward towards sustainability and diversity.
“Our traveling exhibition creates an opportunity for womxn benders to share their work with the communities around the nation and focuses on programming that educates the public on this storied medium. These shows also provide us with a platform to celebrate womxn who may not be bending their own glass but are taking swings at the glass ceiling in their respective fields.”
