New Assistant Dean for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Dean Mary McGee is pleased to announce to the Alfred University Community that Jennifer Posener has been appointed Assistant Dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences effective Aug. 3, 2009.

Ms. Posener joined Alfred University in March 2008 as Director of Retention in the Office of Admissions and Enrollment Management. An experienced professional in higher education, Ms. Posener was previously on the staff at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, where she served in various capacities for ten years.

Jennifer received her undergraduate degree in political science and theater from the University of Buffalo and her M.S. in Higher Education from Syracuse University. She will be working closely with students and faculty as CLAS broadens its academic support networks and strengthens its

collaborations with other units and programs within the University.

Dean Posener's office is in 201 Seidlin.

Parking Area behind Howell Hall closed for Exhibit

The Green Fest group will be using the small parking area next to Openhym, behind Howell Hall, for an exhibit this Friday, Aug. 7t and Saturday, Aug. 8. During that time the area will be blocked off. We are asking that anyone currently parked in that lot please move your vehicle to the parking area in front of Openhym, temporarily.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thanks very much for your cooperation!

Blackboard Upgrade Saturday 8/8/09

This Saturday, Aug. 8, ITS will be migrating Blackboard 9 to http://blackboard.alfred..... At that time, Blackboard 9 will replace AU's current version of Blackboard. All courses from the last five semesters will remain in Blackboard.

Electric Shut Down

On Monday, August 10th, campus electric South of Pine Street will be off starting at 5:00pm for approximately two hours. This will affect all campus buildings with the exception of the Statutory College and PCC

NYS Green Fest Coming to Campus This Weekend!

We are pleased to be hosting the NYS Green Fest here on campus this weekend, Aug. 7-9. The program will begin Friday at 10 a.m. with registration at the Campus Center Information Desk and will conclude Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

Workshops and forums will be presented in Kanakadea, Powell Campus Center, Steinheim, and Howell Hall. They are expecting approximately 130-150 people. Attendees requiring lodging on campus will be housed in the Brick, Davis and the Saxon Inn. Others will be camping at Foster Lake. They will have meals in Powell Dining Hall. For recreation they will be using the pool, the Pine Hill Trails and the Foster Lake area.

Exhibitors will be setting up in the Campus Center and on the quad. There will also be an alternative energy car show in Academic Alley on Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Anyone is allowed to sign up.

The new Web site features a schedule, events calendar, DJ profiles and blogs, with more features to come soon, including live streaming on the Web.
